I think i'm getting some hair shaming going on at work. Or it could be they're just jealous because most of them don't have any

I know i need a haircut, you don't have to keep telling me. I'd have to go to another state or some back alley butcher till they allow barber shops to open here.

I went to my regular barber to have a hair cut today. I did have my mask on and the barber did too.

Just went on Wednesday. Only one customer at a time in the barber shop (waited outside). Barber wipes down chair with disinfectant and cleans implements as per normal (clipper head and scissors cleaned in barbercide, new comb). We all have to wear masks (including barber, of course).

I bought my 2nd Wahl hair cutting kit a few months ago and love it. Used it a week ago and was very pleased with the results. I cut my own hair while standing in front of a bathroom mirror. I have a hand held mirror I use at the end to check to see what adjustments are in order, make some more passes until I'm satisfied, then clean up the device and it's attachments, scoop up the hair in the sink and put in my compost container, then take a shower.

First kit I bought was in 2005 and I figure I saved over $2000 cutting my own hair and of course didn't have to go out to a barber shop and etc. The kit I just bought is designed especially for self-cutting, but could be used for cutting someone else's hair:

I just cut my own hair for the first time with Wahl clippers yesterday, #2 on the sides and #3 on top. That's very close to a butch. It's funny because I was only allowed to have butch haircuts for most of my early child hood. I hated it. I just wanted to have enough hair to have a part in in it like my friends, but dear old Dad wouldn't budge until I was about 10. I have realized already though that it is going to be nice to not need a comb anymore.

I bought a Wahl clippers set. All star. Comes with the small and big clippers. My wife cut my hair. 8 on the top and 3 on the sides. Came out ok after some trial and error. Hoping the next cut is better. Definitely going to save myself some time and money having the hair cut at home. I've always hated going to have my haircut at the salon.

I don’t advise a haircut, man. All hairdressers are in the employment of the government. Hairs are your aerials. They pick up signals from the cosmos, and transmit them directly into the brain. This is the reason bald-headed men are uptight.

Any excuse to pull out that quote!

The 'salon'... real men go to barber shops.

Real men cut their own hair. But if I'm paying someone to cut my hair, I rather go to salon and let female cut my hair. When I'm traveling and need a haircut, I go to salon.

I went for 20+ years without cutting my hair or having my hair cut. I only cut it when my GF kept nagging me to cut it. I didn't but one day I told her I would. We broke up and I cut it anyway, just because I said I would. Had it cut. Have had it cut ever since. Really it's no biggie. WTF, guys, cut it, don't cut it, what's the difference? Nowadays it's so common to see unusual hair, it's so common it's never a shock any more. You have as good excuse right now as you're ever gonna get not to cut your hair.

Saw my nephews the other day, their hair is getting pretty long haha. I keep encouraging them to just grow it out like me. The oldest has pretty epic curly hair actually.

Had to make an appointment. 7am, not a big deal since he usually opens at 7:30. Was not expecting the 40% price hike though. Guess my $15 and $5 tip is turning into $21 and no tip.

Dawned on me when the wife made a comment about the fact I'm looking a bit shaggy earlier today...

What does anyone have planned for grooming, specifically haircuts? We have chosen to shelter in place for as long as necessary. Retired, and almost all banking, etc., has been electronic for years, did see some of this coming plus we have a freezer full of food, so no immediate needs there. Plenty of beer and spirits on hand which we have doubled up on in the last few weeks, so we can sit tight for weeks now. Family can run errands, purchase food and bring it to us.

But I am not going to a barber shop and have a man that has been in close contact with a dozen people that day, while he cuts my hair. Actually I have no idea if he is even open, or is also sheltering in place at home.

So when does it get bad enough that you ask the wife, or whomever to do some trimming?
I don't know really. Even after opening up, I too will be *very* reluctant to get a haircut.

My wife watched a quick youtube video and came out better then expected! I usually get 2 on the side and then hand cut the top. I don't think you should buzz the top, it'll look ... weird, haha.

Heh, had my wife do my hair during this, might just make it full time for her.

Using a trimmer that I would have normally used for a beard no less...

But yeah, basically a 2 on the sides and a 5 on top while trying to fade a little. This isn't difficult shit, yet for some reason people pay $30+ and women go to salon-school to get a certificate that they can do it.

I buzzed mind simply because it was bugging me, and I knew it would be a while before I was 'out in public'. Bit of a change every time I passed a mirror, but now I kinda like it. And no more waking up with 'bed head', even though some mornings it feels like that.

Plus I don't see exposing myself being up close and personal with a barber, who has been up close and personal with a dozen other men that day. Showers are easier, I just have to remember to wear a hat if I'm outside in the sun for a while.

I typically get my hair cut every 3 weeks or so....I've been spiking it up in the front the past few years. Prior to that, I was running all the time and just buzzed it with a #1.5 or #2 guard at the barber shop. My hair got long enough that I had my wife buzz it down a few weeks back in the garage. I'll probably do it again this week. It's just tough because I like to go shorter on the sides/back and fade it into a #2 or #3 on top....just looks better...but takes some care and skill.

Been cutting my own hair since March. I never had the courage to try, but now I've gotten used to it and like the ease of a nice buzzcut. Started off extra short for the first few tries, then went down to zero for the last one with no guard.

All my life Ive had some hair on my head but now I can feel any little breeze go by. I am also normally clean shaven but have grown a mustache to complement the military style haircut.
