I was lucky enough to have the chance to try a x800 pro for 1 week. Its one of my buddy who lend it to me while i lend him my 6800gt.So i bench HL2 with the video stress test. Before getting back my 6800gt and today with my 6800gt.Here are the result
X800 PRO
1024 default option NOAA, NOAF :101.27fps
1024 default option 4xAA 8xAF :97.91fps
1280 default option 4xAA 8xAF :77.90fps
Now with my card
6800GT XFX(my brand)
1024 default option NOAA, NOAF :115.71fps
1024 default option 4xAA 8xAF :108.33fps
1280 default option 4xAA 8xAF :78.53fps
With the ati using 4.11 drivers and with Nvidia using the 66.93.NO i wont try with other driver .
Why am i impress? Its because i was told that HL2 will run way better with a ATI card, and this is not.Well it doesnt run bad at all with the x800 pro, anything over 60fps is just perfect.Having a x800 pro i would be happy. But i was scare like poo that with my nvidia card, i will have way lower performance.I have heard and read tho that at higher resolution( cannot test it, limitation of my monitor ) like in 1600x1200, HL2 run better on ATI, like by a 15-20 % difference...is this true?
Its simple i play all my games in 1280 or wide 1280.So i kinda dont care about that 1600 resolution. So which card to get for HL2? Fly a coin.If your a fan of Nvidia, then get Nvidia,If ATI are your god then get ati.Its not a difference of 1fps in 1280 that will make me choose one card or another.but i was scare that my nvidia would run not very good and now i am extremely happy about my purchase.
