I told you it was too early to post the thread, anyway, you can edit your first post and add the needed information.

PC Gamer UK gave it a 96%.
Regular PC Gamer gave it an even better score - 98%. That's a tie for the highest score they've ever given out (the other being to Alpha Centauri).

Actually, I believe Alpha Centauri was given 97%.

jus done a few runs of the video stress test, dunno how to bench the proper game but i thought id check out different AA and AF under different quality settings and thru app control

so my rig

A64 3200 at 2200MHZ, 1 gig geil value ram, ASUS K8N-E Deluxe, Audigy 2 and Leadtek 6800GT @ 350/1000

my finidings. these are run at 1280x1024 and using 66.81's with max settings in game + relfect all on water (excluding aa and af)

NO AA or AF
Quality settings in driver CP = 117.56fps
High Qual settings = 115.11fps

4xAA 8xAF
Quality = 96.43fps
High Qual = 80.62 (nvidias optimizations on the trilinear an aniso deliver a huge boost)

Application controled...setting aa and af throught the video options within HL2 engine

4xAA 8xAF Quality settings = 90.42 (if app controled is ment to = control panel controlled why lose 6fps)
4xAA 8xAF High Qual = 78.42fps (again another drop jus by using app contolled)

I would bench my 9500, but it seems I just purchased an eVGA 6800 for $208 shipped, so I think I'll wait a few days

How do I add the console command to allow me to use the timedemos? I don't understand Anandtech's explanation. Thanks in advance!

create shortcut on your desktop right click it and select properties then add -console at the end of the target line.

Right click on the HL2 shortcut on your desktop and click properties.
On the line that says "target" add - console to the end. Then click apply.

Example: "C:\HL2\yadda\yadda\yadda\HL2.exe" - console

I believe you can also go into the game itself, Options menu, Keyboard, Advanced, and then click the box that enables the use of the console. Viola!

Athlon 64 3200+ (2.2GHz, 512K L2)
ASUS K8V (using on-board sound)
1GB DDR PC3200 Corsair Value Select (512x2)
GeForce 6800GT (350/1000, 66.93 drivers)

I tried out some of Anandtech's timedemos and noticed much lower scores on my set-up. They used an Athon 64 4000+ in the benchmarks. Is the game really that CPU dependent or is something wrong with my system?

1024x768, settings same as Anandtech benchmark

CANALS
Mine 94.07
Anand 133.3

COAST 05
Mine 94.01
Anand 131.3

COAST 12
Mine 90.97
Anand 123.3

In this case. It seems there's the significant cpu difference btw 3200 and 4000+, on board sound and the quality of RAM being used

i havent had a chance to run any benchmarks yet, but after playing the game for many hours now, I can tell that the system specs talked (speculated) about for months needed to run this game were grossly overhyped. I'm probably getting 35min, 70fps max (just referencing cl_showfps 1) with a GF4 ti4200 800x600, normal settings. so i'm happy about that. i thought i would get under 30fps too, so what a relief.

BTW, is there a consensus whether the X800 or 6800 is better at this game?

So how are you guys with the 6800 Ultra's running this? Is it playable with all the features maxed out at 1200x1024? That is all i'm worried about. Not worried about 1600x1200.
