think i'm going to hold off on this, HL2 was great, but I think $20 for 5 hours is a bit much, say they release 5 of these, are you going to pay $100 for 25 hours of gameplay?

think I'd rather wait for the bargain bin or when they release them all together for cheap later.

sowaht are the details on the einge...is it basically the normal source engine + HDR?

Doug Lombardi: With each of the episodes in the trilogy, we will advance the story and leverage the latest technology while also introducing new technology driven by the creation of said episode. In Episode One, we will be utilizing the HDR lighting tech introduced in Lost Coast, and the film grain and color correction technology introduced in Day of Defeat: Source.

In addition, we?ve expanded the Commentary system, and Episode One will contain over 100 commentary nodes (versus the dozen or so in Lost Coast). The near-constant presence of Alyx throughout the Episode has driven the creation of two and half times as many animations for Alyx as were created for Half-Life 2. And we?ve updated the Source facial animation system to provide her with an even broader emotional palette. These, and other improvements being introduced for Episode One, will be added and made available for MOD authors and Source licensees via the next Source SDK update.

I don't think you'll have any problems unless you're running at a really high res with HDR.

When I bought it, it said that I got HL2 deathmatch. Wasn't this already in HL2? Or is it really new?

Nope, and it also came with CS:S I believe... That's just assuming that you buy this game, yet somehow managed not to buy HL2.

Hmmmm, must be getting flooded like all hell. It's been stuck at "updating 0%" for a while now. I did all the preloads as well.

I played for about 30 minutes. The graphics seem to be on par with what we saw in Lost Coast, in other words, HL2+HDR, which looks quite nice. Using the flashlight on Alyx, for example, makes her glow a bit like characters do in Oblivion when using HDR. There's also a seen where you can see the sun in the horizon using HDR. Fire looks nice as well. Performance is also very good on my A64 7800gs (AGP) and 1gig of RAM.

Some of the textures do seem very low res, specially since I was used to playing HL2 with the cinematic mod and the hi-res textures.

Only problem is I have to go back to work now, bah!

Excellent game. For some reason it seems to ghost less than HL2 on my Envision EN2028...guess it's the dark textures.
Paid $17.95...cancelled the Buy.com order.

I'm on the third chapter now. A few things:

1. Alyx got stuck once, she should have been able to get through a gap easily but stood there. I built a ramp, cleared debris etc. Eventually she woke up and started moving.
2. Speech gets drowned out a bit by music and ambient noise, which is odd as it was never a problem with HL2.
3. Some of the new graphic effects are cool but the 6800 is struggling a little, oh noes...

Fairly minor negatives so far.
