2 Weeks? Dude, you in dream land. It doesnt get released till September 30th.

Haha! in US it doesnt get released until then. In germany - the 0.3x version is already in press. Our distributors machines are located thereabout too, and are already in press as well. +1-3 weeks for transportation and we get a "pre-release"

so you will have a prebeta...so what? I gurantee I'll be able to find the same thing for download around the net

I'm guessing that it'll require about the same level of hardware as Doom 3 does. It might not have the same levels of visuals but Valve can't match Carmack's coding skills.

As for the E3 hardware it was definitely a 9800 Pro and probably a 3 GHz P4 as well.

Good thing Carmack can't touch Valve's gameplay. I'll take HL1 over any version of Quake, Doom, whatever. Anytime!

naah they would hold mass fights wether to go for gameplay or visuals

the halflife engine (a modefied quake1 engine) is still one of the most used ones in existence in online gaming (Counterstrike, DoD, TFC, FA, etc) and offers many singleplayer mods, the $50 I spent on halflife here were the best money I ever spent on a game ever.

I have no idea how old it is, but I kno it's counting in over 2 years now. while the visuals might definetly not be up to par, they suffice, and they are not cluttred, hard to explain if you never have played TFC or CS or something like that.

Haha who is this guy lying about getting HL2. There have been no alpha leaks and there likely won't be -- Valve is being extra careful after what happened with Doom 3. Dream on buddy.

From the visuals I have seen, HL2 looks superior...

I agree. Doom3 uses various bump mapping techniques to get its fancy visuals, the textures in game are crap. HL2, from what ive seen has some nice high res textures.

FYI it uses the Quake 2 engine, and was released in 1998.

I thought H-L2 at E3 was run with a prototype Radeon 9800 with a 256 MB DDR2-module on it. And it didn't run THAT well (detail at max 6x FSAA and all)...whatever I'll see it when it comes out. I'll even buy it...98 days left...

I thought that a while ago, but i found out that it actually uses a heavily modified quake1 engine.

It did run on a 9800pro 256mb.
Have you even seen the videos of HL2 at E3? I hardly call that running badly do you? It was smooth through out.

I think it was a similar situation to the DeusEx2 thing. The renderer and sound systems in quake1 were completly re-written to cater for Valves needs, but the other stuff was still intact, such as the net code, and control interface.

How many times are we going to have to argue about this? Its been 4.5 years since the damn game came out and people still think Quake2 played any part in the game's inception. There was never a license for the Quake2 engine. The current rumour says there was a section of code that wasn't working properly from the Quake1 source that was fixed in Quake2. John Carmack snipped the function from the Quake2 engine and sent it to Valve as a patch.

HL used a heavily modified version of the Quake1 engine. Period.
