They are just saying that so customers don't get pissed because the store pushed back their date.

If that's true, I wonder why valve is releasing benchmark for a game that's not coming out anytime soon, as if to tell people to dump their nvidia videocards and start to buy ATi videocards. I'm just going to wait until the game is released, then decide which videocard to buy. An ATi 9800 Pro certainly will cost less next year or something better will be available.

So is the general consensus that it will not be released on the 30th Sept 2003 now or is it a fact? Or are we just speculating? Was looking forward to the end of this month too

Having looked at some UK games sites most have the release date as "TBA" ,some have 30th Sept, however being that it`s so close to that date now the "TBA" looks the right one IMHO.

From what I hear Valve is still saying the game will be shipped the 30th. I have a hard time trusting all these online retailers and their release dates because they are all different, there isn't any uniformity.

Well since the next crop of cards are what's really needed to play this game in all its glory....

....February seems reasonable.

But I hope it's end of November.

EDIT: Also it might be a case of Steam version getting released earlier....and boxed version later???? Well I'm not clear on what or how Steam works.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's pushed back. Games like this just have a tendency to be pushed back... a lot.

February would piss a lot of people off, myself included. Of course, no one really knows until it's on the shelves.

9/30 release date was based on the game going gold (final version completed) by 9/13.

Valve admits they missed the 9/13 deadline, but have yet to alter the 9/30 release date, it must be inevitable.

They're saying that based on the changed release date that the original post was about.

BINGO! I was just speculating this over in the Video forum: What if this is a scam to use FUD to stampede people into snapping up 9800s NOW instead of waiting to see if the R400s or NV40s are better? They'll be out before February and this could be a preemptive strike in case Nvidia decides their thumbs are warm enough and they come back huge with the NV40. We saw how much improvement came between the 5800 and 5900 just by going with the 256-bit pipes.

If this game isn't out in time to be under my Christmas tree Christmas morning, well, I'm gonna be ticked...

I agree that if they have no intention of getting the game out in the next month or so, their benchmarks are unwarranted, especially with such a slant against nVidia's current setup. The fact that valve has a business relationship with ATI sours the need for these benchmarks that walk all over nVidia.

I got this this morning:

Dear Amazon.co.uk customer,

Thank you for ordering "Half Life 2" for Amazon.co.uk.

Unfortunately we have been informed that the release of this title has
been delayed. We have now been informed that "Half Life 2" is due for
release around 01/12/2003, but we are waiting on final confirmation of
this from the publisher. Once we have more accurate information on this
title we will update you.

And a spello to boot. :disgust:

>Or are we just speculating?

The one thing for sure is that when it goes Gold everyone will know about it.

The other thing that ticks me off is even though this is going to be a great game how in the heck can it get Game of the Year at E3 and not be released in that same year. This is just not right, E3 should give the game of the year to a game that's already out. If everyone remembers TFC2 won game of the year at E3 back in 1999 but it's schedule for a release date of November 14th 2004 a full 5 years after the fact.

Anyway like PHL said bitching and moaning about it won't do anything, you have to grin and bare it and will give users more time for hardware to catch up before upgrading.

Actually,

Valve could release a version for ATI cards now, and release the Nvida version at Christmas... apparently that is the reason for the hold up. Hey, the could start making money on it now that way!
