Halo2 is a nice game, but it really isn't much different than Halo 1...which was an excellent game, don't get me wrong....

Half Life 2, on the other hand, was the most impressive thing I have ever seen, and I have been to the last 6 E3 shows, and own a high-end PC with lots of games....and this is head and shoulders above anything I have ever seen before.

Doom3 looks nice and all, and I'm sure it will be a great game to play, but I think since the video shown really wasn't much different from last year's, it didn't have the same impact this year. I think they did that on purpose to see what all the fuss about HL2 was for...

Deus Ex2 did look very nice, but probably too complicated for most people.

Call of Duty looks awesome as well.


By the way, if you only played Half Life for two hours, and never played it again, you missed out on hours and hours of single player wonder..not to mention TF, CS, and all the other mods...

Halo 2 is just an old school fps with DECENT graphics. what new things does it bring to the table? what amount of excellent does it give? its just a decent game thats ok Xbox i see no reason to hype it imo.

You're basing this off a video you saw of HL2 and a video you saw of Halo2. I own Half Life 1. I own Halo. Guess which game I played once for 2 hours and never played again? Guess which game I still play on a weekly basis?

Decent graphics? You're comparing a $3000 PC with a $400 graphics card to a $180 console. WTF do you expect when you compare a Viper to a Civic? You talk about what new things it brings to the table or excellence it brings, yet never having played it, but then RAVE about Half Life 2's new things it brings, yet never having played it.

That Halo2 brings a lot more to the table than you'd expect. You're basically saying it's crap but have no logic or reasoning for it.

What does it bring? What did the first one bring?

All im saying is that they are just rehashes of the exact same thing as far as i can tell. Granted they are good rehashes they are still same ol same ol. I didnt play Halo extensively though so i'm no expert, feel free to enlighten me.

Halo to me seems popular because its on a console and there are a lot of console gamers and it has decent multiplayer, similar to goldeneye only with online possibilty. Even if Half-Life 2 wasnt going to have Multiplayer I still think its be amazing simply because of the technology implemented. I'm basing this off of videos and information i've read yes, Just as you are i would guess?

My point was just that Half-Life 2 IMO deserves more credit because it establishes more, an amazing engine with supposedly equally amazing scalability and semiseamless enviorments. There are several features which make Half-Life 2 stand out while i can think of very few for Halo 2. That was pretty much all i was saying, I still think Halo 2 will be a decent game but i see no innovation but we certainly dont know all there is to know!

I'll just say pickup this month's issue of the Official XBox Magazine - a good 10+ page spread on Halo2 and the advancements it's made. Oh just to add fuel to the fire - I don't see the big deal about HL2. I really don't.

I wasn't trying to flame or start anything and im still not, if Halo 2 brings new things to the table id love to hear about them! link me up or something, i got nothing against the games i just think they are overhyped because i dont see what they bring to the table.

I know, you were just stating your opinion. I'm a lil on the tired side but tomorrow I'll open her up and write down everything it brings to the table. What do you consider new and bringing to the table? New improved AI? Water physics? That's my beef with everyone slamming Halo2 but praising HL2 - what new does HL2 bring that everyone can tell, based off a short video, but at the same time those same people saying Halo2 brings nothing - is the same recycled "crap", based off a video that is as short a the HL2 one?

Half-Life 2 Features that stand out to me:

Scalability ( yet to be proved though )
Physics WOWO!!!!!!!!!!!!
AI very cool from what i have seen. hopefully there will be less opprtunity to find a level/ai exploit sit and own a boss or something like in so many games
This goes along with physics but the level of interaction, everything (seemingly) is a real object with real reactions and uses, granted I dont think the player will be able to grab a hot pocket and toss it into the microwave I still think the level of interaction is extremely high.
Attention to detail/ taking the time to do it right. The game looks exceptionally polished and thought out but this is more fanboyism then fact so u can ignore this one
This one i have little ot no backing for but if it plays in SP like HL 1 did then it will be an amazingly spooky and enveloping game.
I'm sure the SDK will also be something to brag about.

BTW Halo video was like 9 minutes and HL2 was like 25 minutes

Don't forget the lip sync Maleficus. It uses sylabales and sounds to match lip movement and you can have the models speak in any language with out having to script it.

The level of detail is amazing. Having eyes that move properly, and muscles to shape the face in many expressions is AWESOME. The AI is extremely impressive. I was really impressed when the AI couldn't open the door so it found another way to shoot where the player might be(rather than where the player actually was cuz it couldn't see the player). I was also impressed that it had realtime render to texture ability so you could have a camera in the level render to say an in-game monitor rather than the HL method of pressing a button to see through a camera. The water was nice too with a proper frensel(sp?) term and both reflection and refraction. Being able to apply those shaders to any object makes it sound like modding will be very interesting indeed. Also, the general atmosphere of HL2 looks nice, and surely they will create new versions of all the commercial mods for HL2, and the improved graphics like the shadows will greatly improve upon Counter-Strike. Having to worry about your shadow giving you away sounds fun. Also, having the realistic physics will make many things possible that weren't previously, such as maybe the terrorists barring themselves up in a house with hostages instead of just staring at the preplaced geometry waiting for the CTs.

Of course, a lot of that is speculation on what will be, but still HL2 looks AWESOME. (Haven't seen the halo 2 vid so I can't compare the two)

Pulease people, it isn't so black and white. Half Life 2 won best game of E3, Halo 2 came runner up. i.e. they're both f*@#ing good games! Both have great graphics and gameplay and all that jazz. So saying ones the best the universe has to offer while the other smells like a dog turd is just incorrect.

Everyone gives a rats ass about Halo2. Halo2 = ownage. HL2 only oohed and ahhed ppl because it's eye candy.

I don't think HL1 is still one of the most popular online game because of eye-candy. I think people are expecting as much from the onilne play as they are from the eye candy.

In case you hadn't noticed, every single game on the list was a PC game. It was IGNPC's best of show rankings. Oh, and HL2 will beat the sh!t out of Halo 2. Halo 2 does nothing new or innovative. Sure it'll be cool, but its all stuff that's been done before. I don't see many games that allow you to rip a radiator out of the wall, use it to block bullets, and then hurl it at your opponent.

halo 2, IMO is a way better game then half life. half life has no story line, just the same stale plot as before, just now with better graphics(it's about time).

About time HL got better graphics? It's 4 or 5 years old, and based on an engine that's even older.

HL was very innovative in terms of story. It was more story based that a lot of games I can remember from that time, and there was length to it.
Games like Unreal 2 have a story, but it can be done in less than 10 hours. HL was lasting, and then there was the multiplayer, and the expandability.

And you're saying HL2 is worse than people are saying, based on what? Have you read the script for HL2's story? Have you ever written your own story that hasn't been done before.

And, most importantly, do you think Doom 3 will be great.

Doom 3 is a remake of Doom, but with better graphics.
What you said about HL2 is basically just a description of Doom 3, and HL2 isn't Doom 3.
