Half-Life 2 wins best PC game of E3 award (IGNpc)

The Half-Life 2 videos raped the Halo 2 interactive story demo I mean Halo 2 will be awesome but please, get a grip.

having never played halo 2 or half life 2, i can only go by the videos i've seen and how i played halo and half life. when i first played halo, i was at a friend's house who just got an xbox and that game (when the xbox first came out). we were playing for a little while, and i thought ok, halo seems like a decent enough game, maybe xbox has some potential. a few weeks later, i read that halo was going to be xbox's best game ever, and i was like.... wtf? had none of these people played any other fps before?

but when i first played hl, i couldn't believe it. it's by far the best single player fps i've ever played (never got too much into multiplayer, but i know everyone else in the world did).

so based on what i've seen and played, halo 2 has got to have some pretty serious tricks up its sleeve to compete with hl2.

Half Life 2 looks more impressive from a technical standpoint (obviously....I can only imagine the mammoth requirements to run it nicely), but if Halo 2 is anything like Halo it will stand up a lot longer. Me and my buddies still play Halo several times a week and the game is almost 2 years old.

Besides, HL2 is coming out for Xbox anyway....

I'll buy HL2 no doubt, but I know I'll be playing Halo 2 a lot longer.

So many good games...so little time Just as long as HL2, Halo 2, and DOOM 3 don't all come out at the same time I might be able to salvage my life

since all we have to go on is speculation, most people will say that hl2 is going to be better, simply because based on bungie and valve's previous titles, halo and half-life, half-life was considered to be the better game (because it set the standard, yadda yadda yadda). aside from screenshots and movies, thats all we have to go on to determine which is going to be the better game. so, really, there is no definitive answer until we get at least a playable demo (which wont even settle the score, then, either). and, even when the games come out, we'll still have the same arguments going on. that said...

damn... I was gonna put some rude comment, but in the overall best of show it won, halo 2 was only a runner up, on the site he linked it said...

Anyway, here are some awards! They're only for PC games. You'll see IGN's Overall Best of E3 Awards tomorrow.

Halo 2 will be a better game anyways I could care less about hl2, I will buy it and play it, but I care more about halo 2.

I still play half-life SP every once in a while and I play various multiplayer mods for it all the time, and its what, 5 years old? I'd say HL has lasted longer than Halo (sure its mostly due to CS, but there are other mods many people play also, and there are still good mods coming out for it, like POV where you get to play as one of the Xen aliens was pretty high-quality though it did have some bugs).

Also, this time Valve made the engine from scratch with a lot of features. Judging by how well they used the 'few' features they added to the q1/q2 engine to make the gameplay better, its likely that they used the features of the new engine to add to the game as well, which an exciting thing. It AWESOME when technology gets used to actually improve a game rather than just make it look pretty like happens in for example id's tech demos (aka thier 'games')

Excuse me mate, but do you not notice the number of people who play Counterstrike? HL is over 4 years old and there are still people who play it loads, many people almost soley use their PC to play it (look at some posts in the Video/software forums). Yeah, it's a mod for HL, but it's still there and people are still making mods for HL.

I'm not badmouthing your precious little half life, I was just saying I know I'll end up getting more playtime out of Halo 2.

Arguing with HL fanboys is like arguing with Red Dawn. Or Moonbeam.

Kami made some good points - HL will obviously look better, and in retrospect, it does have more innovative features than Halo2 probably will, but each game can stand on it's own. Halo2 will have fully destructive environments, new vehicles, more squad based combat, (ala Marines) most of it taking place in urban settings, and some other things I don't remember offhand. (maleficuius)

I'm sorry but what the hell are you talking about? Halo isn't playable online like HL is in the traditional sense except via XBConnect and Gamespy Arcade. (No Live! support) If you open up XBC or GSA you'll see thousands of Halo games available anytime of the day. It is without a doubt the most popular game to play on XBC or GSA. HL lasted longer than Halo? Halo has been out < 2 years now. Everyone I know with an XBox still plays it religiously. How can you compare a 5 year old game with a 2 year old game in terms of longitivity? "Half Life has lasted longer". Well no $hit, it's been out 3 years longer

Valve created the last revolution in FPS, I have faith they can do it again after seeing those videos.

HL1 wasn't just an fps, it was an experience. No one had done FPS storytelling and immersiveness to that level before. I think valve can do it again with HL2. the features they've showed off are incredible in their ability to add realism. I don't think anything in gaming has ever caused the reaction in me and many others that the HL2 videos did. It was unreal the steps they've made.

I had pretty high hopes for halo, but after playing it, I thought "wow, I'm running around... shooting things... like that other game".

HL2 looks awesome. I'm just thinking waht type of specs I will need to run this machine well and with what type of gfx in it!

Surely this is going to be a killer for HL2 if it needs specs too high of the *average* gamer? Not some cut down graphics but I WANT WHAT I SAW in the videos
