I just don't care anymore.

When HL3 hits the market and is ACTUALLY available for purchase, then I'll care.

If they ever release it, I'll buy it, but I won't be preordering, and I won't be buying on release day either, I'll wait until it hits one of their 75% off sales. I've "waited" six+ years for the next HL installment, I can wait another year until it hits bargain bin.

DOTA 2, didnt Valve hire some people just to work on that game?

For Dota 2, they hired the lead designer of the original WCIII mod. That's it. As far as I'm concerned it was still created by internal employees at Valve.

CS:GO was made by Hidden Path Entertainment and just somewhat overseen by Valve AFAIK.

They're going to release Half-Life 2 episode 3 chapter 1. By moving to a chapter based release schedule, they're going to be able to get content to us faster and cheaper.

I think the reason HL3 is viewed so negatively in terms of their development time is that Valve stated, instead of making a HL 3, they were going to focus on episodic content to shorten development time and give gamers smaller, shorter releases to enjoy. This wasn't the case, and it took them just as long to release the episodes. If they had just said "HL3 will be released when we are ready" and didn't try and do the episodes, which took 2 years for the first btw, gamers wouldn't be as jaded about HL3.

Also, they kept saying that episode 3 was scheduled to be released in 2007, and they just dropped it and started releasing Portal instead. IIRC they even had a ep3 preview trailer released.

At this point there is no way I'm buying at release. I'll wait till it hits a steam sale. If I waited 6 years to continue the story, I can wait another year.

Valve Fanboys always make me giggle. The only time I could have been considered one was when TFC was still popular along with the HL1 mods (DOD, Firearms, Front Line Force).

Valve now is a freaking joke. Portal really was overrated I think, HL2 was okay but annoying with the dumbass cliffhanger endings, TF2 is ridiculously geared towards simple people.

correction: hl2, portal 1&2 were all great games, l4d and tf2 were more like somewhere between "ok" and "good", not great : >

but it's personal preference. if they hype up hl3 enough, I will get it as soon as possible. loved hl2 to bits.

The mods for HL2/L4D/Portal(????wtf?) are no where near as awesome as the mods for HL1 were .

HL3 won't be a day 1 purchase for me I think. The story isn't as thrilling to me as it was in the past since many other games have come out with much better storylines. I think I'd only play it to see the ending/finish the story. Not in any huge rush, but neither is Valve.

HL came out in 98? Hl2 was in 2003 or 04... Keep it up, maybe they can release HL3 on the 20th anniversary of the release of HL1 :awe:.

Reading through some of the replies, I wonder at some of the negativity towards Valve here:

First off, Portal was great. That's all. Oh and the sequel was an improvement in every way. What more can anybody ask for?

Second, Valve has been busy lately. You know, Steam, TF2, Dota2. You know, great sales and arguably the best digital only game distribution service anywhere. And free AAA games with business models that don't appear to amount to pay-to-win, but may well be carrying their weight, money-wise, from Valve's POV. Valve is nearly every bit the gaming company that Blizzard is, but without the evil.

Third, if you look at what Steam managed to do with Source over the last decade, why in the world wouldn't they come out with their new engine just in time to coincide with the next consoles. This way they make sure that they have something really next gen to build games upon for the next decade. And that HL3 should be the game to usher in the new engine shouldn't surprise anybody, given their history.

That said, HL3 can't get here soon enough. I'm sure that it'll be a blast.

I played through HL2 again for the who-knows-how-manyeth time this month. I found myself getting angrier the longer I played. It's such a great game. I have to play the sequel. I just have to. If I have a stroke or get hit by a bus and die before Valve releases HL3, I'm definitely coming back to haunt them.

I dont even remember exactly what happened during hl2 and the episodes...but i can never forget the ending scene in ep2...
