Yeah, but saying that kinda ignores that absurdity that is Valve's marketing "style".

Potatoes were a thing prior to Portal 2 and no one knew why until we could play it.

I dont even remember exactly what happened during hl2 and the episodes...but i can never forget the ending scene in ep2...

how could they stop doing the episodes after that epic ending?

Because it's valve and they know that all of the fanbois don't care if they get screwed out of releases that were promised to them. They will still keep waiting and hoping for a glimpse of something hl related, regardless of how old they get.

The longer they wait, the older the fans get and the less time or desire we have to game. If they wait much longer they'll have a group of people playing their new game with no history, and it'll get torn to pieces.

Haven't looked at it specifically but it should just be engine updates, most of the source games tend to get updated at the same time.

So, if they want to eventually make HL3, they have the trademark already. Plus, you know doing so will give them even more publicity, fuel speculation, and generate overall support for Valve (regardless if it is necessary).

Trade marks are not domain names, you can't just park them. You do not get granted a trademark until you can prove your intention for commercial use. You get a limited amount of time before the name must be used commercially before it's taken away. No troll can take a trademark just so somebody else can't use it.

Please educate yourself the next time you try to be condescending.

This is true. This isn't a blocking move either. They already have the Half-Life trademark, and under the "similar and confusing" or whatever clause, it already prevents another company from coming out with Half-Life 3 (or 4 or 17 or halflife3 or whatever).

The original Half-Life trademark was registered a year before HL came out. HL2 was registered 3 months after HL2 came out (odd...). So yeah, you have to either have something or have something close to done in order to register a trademark.
