Half Life 3

I don't know if Valve has any plans for it but I hope so. Seems like its been a long time since a release. Would be nice to have a Source engine update as well. Think we might see this in the near future?

I'm pretty sure the Half-Life series has a larger following than L4D and Portal do.

If they released HL3 (or perhaps even Episode 3), Portal 2, and L4D3 all on the same date, I'm pretty sure the Half-Life title would steal the spotlight.

Cuz last time somebody posted Steam numbers TONS of people were playing Counterstrike and Left 4 Dead. Not so many on Half Life 1, or 2.
As far as pure numbers go, good multiplayer beats good single player by a wide margin. Just look at WoW.

This is because Half Life 2 came out a much longer time ago (2004) and is a singleplayer-only game.

Needless to say, yes, a Half Life 3 - assuming it's being worked on - would stir up a lot of hype. We're talking Duke Nukem Forever level of hype.

Half Life 2 is the highest rated PC game on metacritic of all time. The reason why people don't play it as much as the others is because it's single player.

Logic fail. Half-Life has never been about the multi-player - its primarily a single player game. So comparing Steam multi-player numbers between Half-Life and Left 4 Dead or Counter-Strike is not a valid comparison.

You HAVE to install Steam to run Half-life 2. I suppose people could be playing for weeks at a time in offline mode, but doesnt it upload your play stats whenever you finally logon?

Counterstrike is an online multiplayer game. It has infinite replay value.

I'd have to replay the original and the 2 eps just to remember wtf is going on in the story. For me it's like duke nukem...I've waited this long, so if ep3 was released I'd probably wait a year or two and buy it for bargain price on one of their steam sales.

When Ep2 came out it was part of the Orange Box, so it was a pretty slick deal when it first came out depending on if you wanted Portal and TF2 (and who wouldn't?). They probably won't have that many games coming out at once again to pull that, but it still might be something good.

The the time between release of Half Life and Half Life 2 was six years (1998-2004). So at that rate, Half Life 3 should be coming out in... uhhh...

I vaguely recall reading an interview where a valve employee said that they consider the 3 episodes to be half-life 3. I think episode 3 is going to end the story about Gordon. I am sure they are planning to blow the doors off with episode 3 if that is true. I am so ready to play it.

HL2 EP1 was suppar, plauged with bugs (stu-stu-stu-stuttering sound eg.) a damn short gameplay and weapons that never felt right.
HL2 EP2 was even shorter and more boring.

Kind of depressing actually. I have a feeling after EP2 they realized their mistake with doing episodic content, since it takes nearly as long as a full game. So my hope is that they have morphed the EP3 content they were working on into HL3.

If they just release EP3 with a similar amount of content to EP1/EP2, I will be very disappoint. I may not even purchase.
