Blueshift was an expansion of half life. The CD also had updates which made the original half life look better. It was an ok game but it was too short. It only took a couple of hours to beat (for me I think less than 8hrs).

Yes, it would give you a CD key. Blue Shift is just a modified single player Half Life.

The reviews say that you do NOT need the original Half-Life to play Blue Shift. People have complained that Blue Shift is too short, but it comes with Opposing Force, so if you don't own that this is really a pretty good deal. Frankly, I am not sure if it comes with the original Half-Life levels. I have it at home, but I haven't opened it yet.

I have yet to open it. But I am *assuming* so. I do not see any indication on the box that it would not.

I have it, it's a stand alone that doesn't require Half Life.

However, the HD Model upgrade pack is a nice add-on if you do have Half-life.

Yes if you have Half_life then this pack gives you updated models and textures.

I wish they would just let it go and give us Half Life 2.

This is a deal just for the CD key. I haven't found a good way to play online without the key. Maybe I'm missing some key generator out there but I just keep buying Half Life. When you got 4 machines it starts adding up at $29.99 a pop. This is a godsend. I'm gonna order at least 3. Thanks.

Blue Shift or the Generation pack 3?
I'm a bit confused as to whether or not it (Blue Shift) actually comes with Counter Strike, but I know that Gen Pack 3 does.

 

My buddy has Blue Shift (which includes Opposing Force and the Hi Def pack for HL). Blue Shift is stand alone and does not even require the key (it is not a online Multiplayer game, but Opposing force is single/multiplayer so you need it to go online). You can not use the Counter-Strike full mod update on Blue Shift. We tried many times and it will only Mod HL. So this is a good deal if you already own HL and need another key to go online (or possible want the Hi Def pack, which is only "so so" imo. I have played thru the single player and it is extremely short. I beat it in two days, could have done it in one if I had the gumption.
