Do they force you to have the CD in the drive when you buy it retail even though it runs through steam like the retail half-life 2 of old?

No, the CD is just there to ease the initial installation and have validation of your CDkey in case something goes awry. I don't remember steam EVER needing the original disc once the key was entered though. Either way, once installed I didn't need it again.

I'm sure they will. I remember CC had Ep1 for $12 when it first came out.

Episode 2 is supposed to go for like $30 right? Thats a great deal in my opinion...you get the second episode, you also get bonus features like developer commentary (I think), Team Fortress 2, Portal...hell of a deal.


And Schadenfroh, you don't have to worry about the disc-when you buy it retail (I bought HL2 and EP1 retail), all you do is pop in the DVD, type in the activation code, install the game, and thats it; the game is forever linked with your Steam account so you can just start up Steam and load the game, no CD/DVD required.

I broke down and spent my $10 at Best Buy and I do not need the dvd to play after the installation.

Even though I didn't write it... what I meant was with Ep1. Do you know if Ep1 ever needed the disc? I know HL2 did but I didn't specify in my post what I meant. My bad

Neither HL2 nor HL2EP1 required media in DVD drive when I played it. But I bought those in 2006, it's possible they did require media in drive prior to 2006.

they are all stand alone products...you don't even need hl2...

Wow-deal is still up. I'm surprised since most of the time when Valve/EA lowers the price on any of their games it shoots back to normal prices after about a week.
