Half Life preformance & Vid Cards

Okay, Im going to be building a new rig soon... Im in debate with what type of video card to get though. My Fav game is Halflife so I want the preformance to be there. Does anyone know of any sites that do there bench marks under halflife or a halflife mode?

As well, if you have any recommendations that would be great.
I plan to be running a Tbird 1ghz, msi k7t pro 2a, 256 mb crucial cas2(with an agilent cooler, anyone know where to get one in canada?), ibm hd... etc.

alrighty then,

From my experience the best performer is the Geforce 1 - 2 etc. Halflife is still quite a buggy program despite the number of patches and the huge choice of drivers in case of problems is a plus.

I run it on a Geforce SDR (doh!, holding out for NV20) and have tweaked it without any special utilities apart from refresh rate changer for win 2000 and get a constant 100fps, which goes down to 75 when the sh1t is going down. (640*480 + heavily tweaked config.cfg)

I've played on Voodoo 5's and 3's and they perform well but for the money and you seem to be buying a dream system go for a Geforce 2 32 or 64 meg and you'll be sorted

thanks for the input. Good to hear about the voodoo 5000... im debating whether its worth to shell out the extra 100 bones for the geforce gts...
I can get a voodoo 5500 for like 250 can. Where the gts is around 300-350.

Btw, its not a dream sys... i just have a little extra cash and can get some sweet prices... im only spending a G (if im lucky)

dude if u want a dream system go for the gf2 ultra or hold out for the nv20

With todays processors, anything from a TNT2 up should have no problem with half-life. As said earlier, when things get 'complex', the frame rate can drop, but a GF2 MX would probably be the best performance in this game for the money.

Also, would definitely have to agree about the statement about how buggy it is. I usually have no problems, but a few of my friends aren't as lucky!!!

Note: You can go higher than a GF2 MX obviously, but in terms of having more than enough speed, a GF2 MX would be fine - the higher the card you get the better, but Half-Life isn't pushing graphics card as hard as other games.
