HalfLife won't Install.. help

Whenever I try to run Setup.exe to install Half-Life I get this messsage

Application Error:
ISSET_SE caused an Illegal Instruction in module SETUP.EXE at 0001:3ECC
Choose close. ISSET_SE will close.

Ive tried reinstalling drivers and windows.. anyone have any other ideas on this?

do you have another computer in the house you can try installing it on? First of all, prove that it isn't the files on the installation disk that aren't the problem. Then, when going back to the initial computer, make sure all programs are closed. If it's Win9x, make sure everything but "explorer" is closed. If it's WinNT/2k, make sure nothing's running in the Applications tab.

If that doesn't work, try a thorough Scandisk and Defrag before trying it again. If that doesn't work, I wouldn't know what to tell ya.

Correction: If using Win 9x/ME, you need Explorer and Systray to run. Anything else can be closed.
