Went and saw this tonight. It feels a lot like some action set pieces strung together by a loose thread that's designed to fit in an origin to a "Han-ism" about every five minutes. It didn't help that none of the characters really felt all that interesting and they either lacked charm or the boring dialog didn't let them bring any out. Oh, and the robot in the movie is pretty annoying.

Oh, and there's nothing after any sort of credits. So, once you see the (fancy...ish?) credits, just leave.

A pretty weak spoiler, but I'll tag it regardless...
I did find one thing amusing. I watched Cinema Sins video on The Last Jedi, and they remarked at how that movie was the first to really focus on the concept of "fuel" in the Star Wars universe, and in this movie, the items that they're looking to steal... are Hyperdrive fuel.

I saw it last night as well. I, along with those I saw it with, all liked it quite a bit.
Certainly better than Last Jedi. Almost assuredly better than Force Awakens.

My quick review:

Great tie ins to previous movies
Great Easter eggs
Solid fan service without being overbearing
Much better back story and origin stories than I envisioned
EXCELLENT "screw you" to Lucas
INCREDIBLE bomb drop
Wasn't a big fan of the lead actor - had NO Han Solo or Harrison Ford attributes.
I'd go 4 outta 5 stars as far as SW movies go.

None of the recent star war movies have impressed me and now its all just a blur of star wars and superhero movies that I care little about. Maybe if I saw them in the theater on the big screen the experience would be better.

Rogue One didn't impress you? If not, then I'd guess you're just not into "that type of movie". Which is fine. Everyone has different tastes of course

I've been choosy about superhero movies and seeing them in the theater, and I've yet to be disappointed. Star Wars on the other hand...seeing them in the theater doesn't save them. They are just mediocre movies. TFA was cool as a nostalgia trip, but nothing spectacular. TLJ was just..bad. Rogue one was okay I guess, but not memorable....but we'll still be going to see Solo.

You know the one thing that bugged me the most about the poor writing in Solo?

So, they're trying to make up losing the shipment to the Crimson Sun guy, and the guy tells them that they can't steal unrefined fuel, because they're allied with those guys. Solo is all, "Well, we're not allied with them." Then the bad guy, in his infinite wisdom, SENDS HIS BRANDED LIEUTENANT WITH THEM. Like seriously... what kind of writing is that!? You don't want them to know that you're the one stealing, and you send your top lieutenant who has your CRIMSON SUN TATTOO on her wrist. I'm usually pretty forgiving and can ignore stuff that doesn't make sense, but this stood out to even me.

A movie full of one-note characters with no reason to actually care about them, and that they find themselves overshadowed by their sarcastic robot companion? Yeah... that movie... it sucked. The only good part was at the end.

As it was intended to be. Watching it at home can't compare in terms of video and audio, regardless if the movie sucked.

Liked it a lot, my only gripe is how the universe in the last two movies suddenly has a huge boner about everything running on precious and hard to come by fuel.

After the way TLJ left me feeling I'm waiting to see if the user reviews at Metacritic and RottenTomatoes can creep up much higher than they are right now...

I'll probably end up watching on discount movie night if I see it at the movies.

I liked it a lot. Much better than TLJ.

It seemed more designed for old SW fans than they newer movies that are trying to grab a new audience.

Saw it last night, was far from perfect but I was satisfied, especially after TLJ. It had a fair amount of nostalgic content but didn't lean into it too hard. Han actor was hit and miss but overall was fine. A perfect and complete Harrison Ford emulation might be too contrived.

The production troubles for Rogue One and Solo show through, but both movies worked well enough. TFA, for all its mcguffins and plot holes and excessive fan service was otherwise at least decently well put together. I left TLJ feeling angry because of how bad the bad parts were. It was a step back and my expectations for the main line are pretty low now, but I'm enjoying the offshoots.

Saw it today with the family in 2D IMAX. Overall it was a decent movie. The actor, I think, could have been better cast. He just doesn't have the ruggedness that Ford has. If that makes sense. He doesn't give off that badass selfish egotistical vibe, but at the same time being caring when needed. Ford just owns that role. They tried to do it with a couple of his lines, but they felt a bit empty. Anyways, we had fun and it's worth watching. People just need to quit comparing everything to the original trilogy and just enjoy it for what it is. It's not going to stop, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

That said, just reading that the Logan director is going to helm the Boba Fett movie? Very excited for that! I hope they give him enough creative control to do what he does.

I don't know... I'd probably lean that more toward the script and the direction than the actor. I was thinking about it, and one thing stuck out to me... this movie has Han completely backwards. Now, a movie may do this at times to show how a character ends up some way. For example, a character starts out good, gets scorned, and turns evil. Now, to me, Han has always come across as an asshole who sometimes does the right thing. In this movie... he's arguably just a good guy. I can't even really think of a moment where you could even say he was an asshole.

Not sure if this is really worthy of a spoiler tag...
But heck... even Qi'ra calls him a good guy when he's talking about being an outlaw.

EDIT:

Oh, and it looks like I kept messing up the name. It's Crimson Dawn not Crimson Sun.

I didn't like this, I didn't hate it, it was meh, nothing special at all. Didn't feel like a Star Wars movie, felt like a basic movie with nothing special going for it. The actors playing Solo and Lando didn't feel like their characters. Nothing about this movie was anything more than a basic movie with a Star Wars name on it.

Everyone in our group of six enjoyed it, for what it was. I didn't have huge expectations. I just wanted a fun popcorn flick, set in Star Wars universe, and that's what we got. Lot's of Easter Eggs that served us old fans well. Seems like it's setting up for a sequel, but there's no word of that, yet.

Saw it the first night with my wife. Overall, an enjoyable movie, but nothing exceptional. Definitely better than the Last Jedi. But I agree with the poster who said it was seemed like a bunch of CGI action scenes loosely tied together with a thin plot. It *definitely* could have been cut to 2 hours or less. As for the lead actors, my wife thought the Solo guy was great. I disagree, thought he was too much of a pretty boy, with none of the edginess that Harrison Ford had. Glover was OK as Lando, but again didnt measure up to the original. And I thought the female lead had absolutely zero charisma.

Sure he played Lando just fine but he didn't feel like Lando to me, and neither did the guy playing Han Solo feel like Han to me either. Glover doesn't have the Billy Dee Williams swag and frankly, I don't know of any actor today that could have that. And the guy playing Solo was too polished as Han for me, he had zero grit to his character.

This movie, almost nothing felt good or great, just acceptable like yea it's a fine movie, not going to make anyone hate it or love it. It's just a movie. It's there. Maybe it's because of the troubled development of the movie, switching directors. Maybe it's the writing that was bland. Nothing stuck out to me.

Saw this yesterday with the wife, we both thought it was great. May be my favorite of the newer films.

We saw it today. I thought it was better than TLJ, but the wife didn't like it - she's more of a SW fan than me...so that's an interesting point. She actually liked TLJ.
