Original cat story post

This morning the police clapped handcuffs on me and transported me out to the jail. Apparently, there was an incident at the back door neighbor's over getting my cat back.

These people broke their father's promise that they wouldn't keep him locked up inside or feed him if we let him roam at will. We've had the cat 8 years and the people have it trapped inside their house. They lie about having him inside or seeing him altogether. Then when you press them, they say "we'll have to talk about it" .

The cat story link above helps to understand the mindset of these people.

I won't be going into anymore details until this is resolved.

Meanwhile the cat gets no health care. :frown:

So what did you do to get the cuffs slapped on you?

EDIT: This thread sucks, let me out of here.

They ended up charging me with trespassing and 4th degree assault actually.

Awww, it's horrible that kitty gets no health care. Can't something be done about the meds?

Sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. Hope the issue is resolved soon.

Wow, pretty messed up situation. But is the cat chipped? Do you have all the vet bills? If they've been missing it for 8 years, how do they know it's theirs?

The police said there was nothing they could do about the cat. They wanted me instead.

For a second there I thought this was a parody thread of the other thread.

Sounds to me like you are getting totally fvcked. You should have the police charge them with theft - you have the vet bills to prove the cat is *yours*.

Wow that's screwed up. Hopefully you can get yourself out of that situation and get the cat back. Ensure to keep it outside so they don't get it, or get a lion and see how long the can keep that thing in their house. Bastards.

Where do you live?

This reminds me very much of a situation we had with one of our neighbors.

Their family moved in and decided they liked our cat:
http://www.whodah.com/albums/The-Mutts/aap.sized.jpg

So, they started enticing him to their house and feeding him, progressing to getting him to come into their house for food.

He also didn't come home for a couple of days, and it turned out they had him in their house.

I finally explained to them (in not so polite terms) that it was OUR fucking cat, and if they didn't stop feeding him and trying to steal him, that we were gonna have severe problems...

These folks were uber-bible thumpers and missionaries  and thought I was fucking crazy and evil...so they grudgingly agreed to leave the cat alone and stop trying to "persuade" him to change residences.

I was happy as hell when the husband decided that "God had called him" to become a preacher, quit his job as an automotive service writer for one of the local dealerships, and they moved to Oregon so he could attend bible college. (with no financial support, no job, no house lined up...they just went)

I would not be able to sleep at night, or work during the day knowing my cat is outside, or can go outside. There's too many psychos out there. Same with a dog. I would not even let my dog tied out outside if I had one. Only condition I'd do that is if I had a fenced yard and web cams to check up from work. Where I live it's not so bad, but bigger cities tend to have more crazy people. Before I was born my parents had this dog they really loved, he was quite the character apparently. Someone shot him.

Yeah, why not fill in the blanks instead of making us make up stories about how you came over to their house in middle of the night and teabagged their youngest daughter, then anally raped their son while the cat licked your nuts.

The law firm recommended by a lawyer's son has two lawyers for criminal matters. One with 25 years experience wants $3,500 for a retainer. The other lawyer in his office has two years only wants $2,500. Naturally the fees go up if it goes to trial.

Yeah, we never let our cats or dog roam free either. I would love to live in an area where we could, but i live in a really urban area.

If you read the cat story post you would have learned they claim to have had original ownership like 10 years ago.

You don't need a lawyer to press charges, though. Maybe the threat would be enough to persuade the asshole neighbors into returning your cat to you.

Statute of limitations is generally 7 years. I would think that their claim to ownership ended 3 years ago.

You still haven't explained why they charged you with trespassing and assault. Trying to pull a Sam Fisher?

But you've said you've been taking care of it for the past 8? Is the cat chipped with their ownership? If not, and you have the vet bills, you can easily make the claim it's yours. No need to trespass onto their property, just file a theft with the police.

Again, the police will not get involved with cat ownership. They said legally there is no way for us to get him back.
