some people are just so naive that they think this kind of stuff will never happen to them...

This happened in a nice part of Dallas (Frankford/Preston area) earlier this month:
http://www.wfaa.com/news/crime/Home-invasion-burglars-steal-car-injure-resident-71612167.html

Over 70 home invasions in the same part of town in 2007 and 2008:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/881315/club_xfront_for_home_invasion_gangreactions.html

Sticking your head in the sand and pretending that these things never happen to ordinary people won't stop this from happening to you.

"Nice neighborhoods" like to get targeted by criminals as well, since guess what "nice neighborhoods" tend to have more of? Nice (i.e. expensive) stuff, and people who think that it won't happen to them since they live in a "nice neighborhood".

Well k-mart then. W/e. My point being, they are sold in various department stores and as easily accessible as any other item you would buy. Lot of criminals out there just do crime because it's fun to them, and they'll use whatever tools are easily accessible to them. Others, may go to extreme lengths and will find a gun anyway. Guns illegal vs legal is a whole other debate, but point being the fact that they're so easy to access in the states makes them more easily accessible to criminals as well. Lot of criminals are stupid and would not even know where to find a gun illegally. What are you more scared of as a night shift worker, a guy with a knife or a gun? I would prefer having the guy with a knife after me, it would give me a chance to fight back, or at least run away.

A few issues with your logic there slick.

1: Second amendment kind of means that guns must remain legal in the states.

2: There are millions of guns already out there "in the wild", so going to do a "gun roundup" door to door to go get them all? Look at what happened with guns/ammo when people thought Obama was going to institute gun control laws, guns/ammo prices skyrocketed and many stores are still out of certain types of ammo. It's almost a year later. Good luck with that roundup though, especially with people who are pro-gun.

3: Since #2 means that guns will still be around, they will all move to black market. Hoods/ghettos/sketchy parts of town will still have black markets and guns will still get sold/traded/stolen since they can't legally obtain them.

4: Yeah, a guy with a knife is the preferred opponent for anybody. I pull out a legally carried CCW gun, and unless he is stupid/high/druged up he is not going to continue. If he does continue, then there will be a new hole or two in his body.

Guns are here to stay. Period. The US would never pass any kind of legislation attempting to outlaw guns, and if they did it would get overturned by SCOTUS due to infringment on the constitution's 2nd amendment. Care to continue this debate?

Thats because these Internet gunslingers we have here, are just that, internet gunslingers. What is funny is most of them live in neighborhoods where the biggest crime they see is a parking ticket. They totally ignore many facts. Like most burglaries occur when no one is home in the middle of the damn day. So much for those night vision goggles for this elite crime fighting crowd. They ignore that to the tune of almost 90%, these guns in their homes will be used in one way or another to injure a another family member, innocent person, or friend instead of a criminal.
Most of the Green Berets and Navy Seals we have here on this board, lol, have never ever actually met a real life criminal. Because if they did they would know two things. One, most of the hardcore criminals are not intimidated by their guns. Actually they love it, because stolen guns have nice value on the street. And 2, its a fact noise will drive away burglers faster than any gun. A common loud mouth beagle will do a better job than any gun on the planet in the middle of the night. But hey with all the Jason Bournes here, hell I am surprise we have any crime in this country at all.
Lock and load baby. More like load of bs, but hey they keep the internet safe. I feel so much safer when I come here. Spidey is a true marksman though. He can hit the keys on keyboard to the tune of 80 words a minute, reloading on the fly. Truly Elite

Absolutely beautiful. Thank you, sir or madam.

3 revolvers loaded and placed in various areas of the house. Both my kids which are late teenagers / 20 somethings now, were taught at a very early age how to properly respect and handle firearms and as far as I can tell have never moved any of my firearms from their "resting" places. I wouldn't want to have to load/unlock a revolver if I felt the need to pick it up one day or night.

unless i'm misunderstanding you, there is a huge difference between shooting at anything and everything that scares you and a police officer shooting a criminal.

None of the people who were shot in those examples were criminals. Thank you for showing you didn't read any of them, and are a blind jingoistic zealot. I will never give anything you write a second glance.

All my centerfire handguns are always loaded, chambered, cocked & locked.
Not much use otherwise.

The posters that display an irrational fear of firearms can please keep out of my life.

I don't know of any department stores that sell handguns or AK-47s. You have to a sporting goods store, and even then some of those (like Dick's) don't sell handguns or AK-47s.

And no, they are not "as easily accessible as any other items you can buy". A gun buyer has to go through a background check (and possibly more depending on the state he lives in) before he is able to buy a gun from a store. Here is a list of some criteria that they search for:

* A person who has been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year or any state offense classified by the state as a misdemeanor and is punishable by a term of imprisonment of more than two years.

* Persons who are fugitives of justice—for example, the subject of an active felony or misdemeanor warrant.

* An unlawful user and/or an addict of any controlled substance; for example, a person convicted for the use or possession of a controlled substance within the past year; or a person with multiple arrests for the use or possession of a controlled substance within the past five years with the most recent arrest occurring within the past year; or a person found through a drug test to use a controlled substance unlawfully, provided the test was administered within the past year.

* A person adjudicated mental defective or involuntarily committed to a mental institution or incompetent to handle own affairs, including dispositions to criminal charges of found not guilty by reason of insanity or found incompetent to stand trial.

* A person who, being an alien, is illegally or unlawfully in the United States.

* A person who, being an alien except as provided in subsection (y) (2), has been admitted to the United States under a non-immigrant visa.

* A person dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.

* A person who has renounced his/her United States citizenship.

* The subject of a protective order issued after a hearing in which the respondent had notice that restrains them from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of such partner. This does not include ex parte orders.

* A person convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime which includes the use or attempted use of physical force or threatened use of a deadly weapon and the defendant was the spouse, former spouse, parent, guardian of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited in the past with the victim as a spouse, parent, guardian or similar situation to a spouse, parent or guardian of the victim.

* A person who is under indictment or information for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.

I also believe that they look for people who have been committed for mental conditions as well, but not 100% sure on that.

Seriously, stfu if you have no idea what you are talking about.

Apparently you didn't read them either...

1st article:
Edwards, a 25-year-old newlywed, was chasing a man who had broken into his car. Edwards had his weapon drawn, and witnesses said he failed to respond when Dunton - who stepped out of a passing unmarked police car - identified himself as a cop.

The grand jury heard testimony that Dunton shouted, "Police don't move! Drop the gun, drop the gun!"

Morgenthau said Edwards turned toward the officer with his gun out, and Dunton fired a half-dozen shots around 10:20 p.m.

Sounds justified to me. If i was a cop and saw a guy running through the streets with a gun, when confronted by a police officer who identified himself as police the other guy didn't respond except for turning towards him. For all the cop knew, the guy with the gun was going to fire at him. kill or be killed in that situation.

2nd article:
If the police are there, you don't go out to confront the criminals. Need more to the story than whats listed, but for all we know the guy that got shot didn't respond to police or acted in a threatening manner.

3rd article:
Police have charged 21-year-old Dominique Devon Smith with reckless handling of a firearm. It is not known if Smith has an attorney. Police are awaiting autopsy results.

Accident due to mishandling of firearm. He wasn't scared of the guy that got shot.

4th article:
Police initially said the officer had shot himself in the foot as the SWAT team moved into an administrative building Tuesday where the gunman was thought to be. But Cmdr. Tammy Franks said this morning that he was shot by another officer.

Accidental shooting. No one shot because they were scared.

So your articles are a bunch of BS and don't corroborate your original statement in any way. I think it should be me who doesn't give you a 2nd glance.

"Nice neighborhoods" like to get targeted by criminals as well, since guess what "nice neighborhoods" tend to have more of? Nice (i.e. expensive) stuff, and people who think that it won't happen to them since they live in a "nice neighborhood".

Now go explain this to the person who asked , "Where do some of you people live that you are so concerned about home invasion?"

Oh well. Looks like the thread "went there". The poll votes are a nice indication so thank you. I hope to never use my weapons to protect life, liberty or property. But if it comes to that I'm happy I have an option.

The posters that display an irrational fear of firearms can please keep out of my life.

How about the posters who don't have any fear of firearms but who don't feel the need to be armed 24/7? What should we do? Because I need guidance from someone to tell me what legislation and which candidates I should support because gun laws are obviously one of the major concerns of our country right now...and, as you can see, the Obama Administration has done nothing to curb your gun rights despite all the fear mongering by the retardicans and the NRA.

Honestly, I think fear of guns is completely irrational. I also think that the gun rights nuts are equally irrational in their ability to look at the responsibilities that come with gun ownership...namely, private party transfers. Another thing I think they fail to consider is the general population's acceptance of complete strangers walking around in this country armed.

I own guns, and I was a member of the NRA (an organization I will never give money to again so long as I live). Yeah, it would be cool if I could apply for and get a concealed carry permit...but I can't. It is near impossible where I live and quite honestly, I don't know that I want the responsibility, although, I'm sure there are plenty of people here who do.

I generally take people at face value. Seeing a gun on someone's hip automatically puts me at a disadvantage and now I have to take that into consideration when dealing with strangers. Is this person carrying legally, is this person someone I can trust, is this person sane? I just think that arming more people makes for a lot more accidents or a greater possibility of mistaken identity/intent and bad judgment.

Truly a sign that you have lost the argument.

Nope, anyone who thinks that anyone who opposes authority is automatically wrong is an authoritarian coward. The kind of person the Nazi party loved. Which also explains why the Republicans remind me of Nazis so much.

Not intrude on the lives of those who do? (Assuming they do not interfere with your basic rights in doing so, of course)

Another thing I think they fail to consider is the general population's acceptance of complete strangers walking around in this country armed.

I think it's none of the government's business what firearms I purchase. It doesn't stop me from doing so, but it causes me to give preference to private party transfers. It's just my personal opinion, of course. I have no illusions about the situation changing for the better (from my perspective)
Responsibilities you say? I don't use my firearms in an illegal manner and I do not make them accessible to those that might. That's as far as my responsibility will go. I am quite sick of the automatic presumption of future guilt when purchasing a firearm.

If you see the person carrying, he's not carrying concealed very well, is he?
I would think that open carry is idiotic.

My 2 cents, worth nothing more than that.

He basically said that every person in those examples deserved to be shot for whatever reason, even though none were criminals. Typical refuge of a coward. Nothing surprising.

typical forum troll putting words into other people's mouths. I never said they all deserved to be shot. 2 of the fucking articles were accidents, 1 didn't even give any info, and the other had a dude running down the street with a gun drawn.

Just because you are not a criminal doesnt mean that you are not an idiot.

Do you really not understand why the guy in the first example got shot even though he was not a criminal???
