Tmobile $30 100 min 5gb prepaid plan just became lot more attractive . Once my AT&T contract end I'll probably switch to that and just use Hangout for VOIP calls.

T-Mobile doesn't care as the are pushing Wifi / Data calling anyways....

Plus Hotspots are usually everywhere too.

Really hope we can customize the ringtone soon.

Or like I said in a previous post merge it with the Dialer....

Still awesome that it's finally here.

I'd suggest going in the Hangouts Forum and reporting it as a bug if others haven't yet.

We can definitely customize the ringtone already. You need to go inside the Hangouts setting for the account - Hangouts notifications - video calls.

I already tried that and it still uses it's own default ringtone.

Either in Gmail, Google+ or the Chrome Extension of Hangouts: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...jgafhacjanaoiihapd?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon

Go in the Settings and scroll to where it says Google Voice and tick it and it should shortly enable on the Mobile app.

Pretty snazzy. Tried some pictures and they sent just fine. MMS messaging finally.

Once Texts are enabled in Hangouts you won't get a copy at the G-Voice site. Hopefully they add an option to keep a copy at the G-Voice site as it's a nice central hub to search through older Voicemails and Texts.

Yeah, it came up on Gmail for me too. Woohoo!

Anyone test multiple GV accounts on one phone? I guess there's nothing preventing that now.

Just got it after looking in the hangouts app again.

No use for Wi-Fi calling but excited to get a real text msg app. It sends and receives pics too?

I had my GV number forwarding to my regular number at first, so when someone called me both Hangouts and the standard phone app would ring. I turned off forwarding and now making and receiving calls from my regular number and GV number separately seems to be working fine. SMS also seems to work fine.

The only problem is that once I turned off forwarding, my regular number went back to the standard voicemail service. What I'd like to happen next, which I'm not sure is possible, is to still have my regular number use GV as voicemail. Is this possible? Has anyone managed to do this?

GV integration is cool, but I feel like they degraded the interface. You used to be able to swipe back to the message list from a conversation, but that no longer works.

WHY GOOGLE WHY?

Goto https://voice.google.com and click the gear then go in your settings. Under Phones where Forwards calls is. Find your phone number and the box by your number and the two below it do not need to be checked. Just click: Activate Google voicemail on this phone and follow the directions.

That's it.

Here is where you need to let them know: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!categories/hangouts

Maybe: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!categories/voice

Yes managing in Hangouts needs work. You should still have the Google Voice app installed until the kinks get worked out.

Like MMS messaging with G-Voice in Hangouts is awesome but they haven't added group SMS for G-Voice in Hangouts yet.

So yeah.... Things are still under construction. You can still opt out of the G-Voice to Hangouts merge and use the G-Voice site and App until things are added and fixed.

Another kink.... As an example if you Hangouts on your Tablet and enabled Google Voice SMS and say don't or can't use Hangouts on your Mobile Phone it will disable Google Voice SMS forwarding for your Cell number....

I suggest using the Feedback Tool (found on all Google sites and apps. Either G-Voice or Hangouts or both) and report this to Google.

I'm just glad the accidental archiving is gone.

That's how it should work.

It's not how it should work? How long have you used G-Voice?

In Google Voice you could choose to Texting on your PC or Tablet then use your Phone's SMS service in which it masks it to your G-Voice number. This was if you didn't or couldn't use the Google Voice app (or mobile site) and have it done over the Phone's Wifi/Data.

Now it's disabling that option on the phone as before it was a simple check box so if you were using the Google Voice app you wouldn't get double the Texts.

So yeah it needs to be fixed.

Since Eclair.

You're still not being clear about what behavior you're talking about. Do you mean the carrier text<->GV text gateway they used to have? That's far from a standard use; most people want simple SMS over data.

At the G-Voice site in settings under Forwarding Phones you could uncheck Receive text messages on this phone if you're using the Google Voice app over Wifi/Data on your Phone or check Receive text messages on this phone if you can't use the G-Voice app on your phone and or only used it on a Tablet.

You could always do this with the Google Voice app / site.

Some people may use Hangouts on the Desktop and or on a Tablet but use a Phone which doesn't have Hangouts or they do not want to use Hangouts and wants their G-Voice number to be displayed when they send and receive SMS messages on there phone.

Google Voice has always been about giving the user a wealth of options to use how they see fit.

An example if you have a phone with only a mobile browser you can use the G-Voice mobile site to send Texts and place calls displayed as your G-voice number.

Ah, ok, you do mean the SMS gateway.

A guy on reddit suggested this:
Google Voice allows you to forward incoming messages to your e-mail address. What about turning that on, then setting a rule to forward those e-mails to the SMS gateway e-mail address for your carrier phone number? You'd need to test, but that could work. You wouldn't be able to reply, but you should be able to receive them at least.

Sorry I wasn't clear before. Just been doing a million things at once.

While that is a decent workaround. I don't see why they wouldn't re-add the functionally back.

When a merge happens we expect bugs and features needing to be re-added. Some Google Engineers have said in the Hangouts Forum that the best way to ensure things like this are fixed is to use the feedback tool (found in all Google Sites and Apps) in which they use to collect and put together which problems need to be addressed more quickly and worked on first and so forth.

Can someone help me get a handle on all this ? I don't really know what Hangouts is ? I pretty much ignored it because it was part of G+, but now it isn't ?

Where does Google Chat fit in this ? Currently I use my GV number as a separate phone number, used on my laptop, not integrated with my cell number much. So I have incoming calls forwarded to Google Chat, not my cell. Chat then rings on my laptop when I have an incoming call.

Does Hangouts replace Chat ?

Also, can I use my Nexus 7 with Hangouts and my GV number to make and receive calls ? Is it going to use my cell minutes even if I'm using my GV number ?
