I stopped on this show last night whilst channel surfing called Hannity & Colmes on Fox (or Faux if you prefer) News. They were talking about Dakota Fanning's new role in an upcoming movie where her character gets raped. "No big deal" I thought, she's an actress and this sounds no worse than material I've seen in other movies ("Kids" anyone?).

One of the guys (I don't know if it was Hannity or Colmes) just blew his lid. I thought he was way over the top in his reaction. Do these people get paid to specifically overreact, in essence making him more of an actor than really having an opinion? It's not like this is the only show either, I thought CNN's crossfire was always overly dramatic too...which is something I'm glad John Stewart called them out on.

Whatever happened to informed debate rather than spewing misinformation all over the place (apparently none of the personalities in the discussion had even seen the scene in question).

LOL. You don't watch those shows for new or debate, they're the television version of political talk radio, i.e. paid blowhards. They attempt to maintain a high emotional state, they are purely entertainment.

if fox news or cnn or any other major media outlet did not pull in revenue... they would not exist.

it was probably hannity who blew his lid... colmes hardly ever goes nuts... hannity IS nuts.

i love how fox news portrays the liberals that they have on their shows as weak, unattractive, annoying-to-listen-to people (i.e. greta van sustren, alan colmes... um... greta van sustren...)

Yeah I totally agree. I guess I just wish that being "news" channels they would at least try to get some facts before mouthing off on something. It's basically irresponsible of their role as a "news" channel since there're so many uninformed people watching and likely using that show as their only source. But I digress, perhaps that's exactly why the studies show (I forget which ones, but they've mentioned soo many times on here before) that Fox News viewers are the least informed. Fox News seems to have more shows of this kind than the other networks.

I love how Hannity has nailed down that "squinting eyes, concerned conservative" look.

First you need to be able to see the difference in news and commentary. If you judge a station on just the talking heads then they all are crap. They vary slightly in real news reporting but are usually very close.

Please link the mentioned story if you can.

I'd like to see a comparison of of the various networks in regards to air time spent on talking-heads versus actual reporting. I think it'd be interesting. I had a friend in college who did a little study on the local news channels. He broke down the various times pent of types of stories. Most was spent on sports and a significant portion was spent on news-ads-within-the-news (i.e. the weather lead-ins that advertise the awesomeness of their new doppler 5000 and HD broadcast, etc...)

Anyway, couldn't find a link on the Hannity/Colmes page, but here's something.

...and the wiki

As long as FOXNEWS remains in the top slot for cable news stations I am afraid it may never change. Their ratings are high, so they have to be doing something right in their eyes.

Thank god I'm in the UK, so I don't have to put up with this kind of crap often - (it can happen though). The thing is - having been online for a while now - I've begun to see just how important the BBC, and/or the tv license actually is in this country, and just how muhc of a balance it gives the people here - independently of the government and corporations... I used to absolutely hate the tv license - but having seen how bad things could get without it - I think I'd rather keep it...

Hannity has nothing on Helmet Hair Grace.

Let's not forget Mr. Olbermann and his daily tirades.

His are at least a little more grounded. I'd rather listen to Olbermann say that Bush is probably breaking the law than hearing Hannity say that Dems are cowards. One is a little more grounded, as I said.

Nancy Grace is horrible though. People get murdered, abducted, raped...etc and she acts like it's a circus and she is doing us a favor. Look at the Duke Lacrosse team, she hasn't apologized for essentially saying they were guilty from the beginning.
