I already have one and while the color is not terribly accurate, for that price I think I'm going to have to buy a second one.

After all, when I want accurate color I use the CRT projector.

Like Kwint said, if accurate color is mission critical (photo editing, etc), this probably isn't the ride for you. But for every day use (desktop, net, gaming, business, whatever), you really can't beat the cost per viewing acre of this thing. I love mine. And if I was near a Costo I'd snag another one for that money. You'll prob need to turn the brightness down initially... I've never been so tan since I got this thing!

I have this monitor, bought from costco in January.

I use it mostly for games and it is fantastic. Viewing angle is limited so you have to view it at the center for best results. I was a little hesitant after hearing some of the issues with color and viewing angles, but it turned out to be pretty much nothing. This thing works great. I would easily spend the same money again for it.

I have one of these, the trick to get the brightness right is to change it to USER COLOR settings then bring all the colors down to somthing like 65 (at a different computer, can't check). Once you do that you can lower the contrast to adjust further.

Also you should set the monitor dimmer than you want and give your eyes some time to adjust. After a few a bit your eyes adjust and it will be much easier on your eyes.

If I remember I'll post all my settings later tonight.

I would give this monitor 8.5/10 rating. very bright, and clear as pc display.

One thing I wish this monitor has is maybe height adjustment. I am using the VGA>Component to watch my HD content from Dish Network, and the HDMI>DVI for PC. It would also be nice if there was PIP (picture in picture), or remote

I have this monitor for everyday work (along with my Soyo Topaz). It's OK for gaming, but not great. The main issue is the vertical viewing angle - the top portion of the screen will be darker than the rest, and does effect playing games with darker scenes. The only way to get around this is too view the montor with your head higher up than normal (towards the top of the screen). This effect isn't so bad for movies, but annoying for several games I tried it on.

It's a great LCD for everyday desktop work, where the vertical viewing angle is never an issue. For games, the Soyo Topaz is much better.

This is totally true. I have this monitor as well. It's an unreal amount of real estate for the price so I can't complain. But if I had one complaint, this is sure it. Dark scenes (and only on some games for some reason) are kind of like hazy/fuzzy like you have to stand up or tilt the monitor way down (and it's still not down enough sometimes)....

I read (googled) this monitor and it seems it has bad ghosting with source games and bad black bleeding with dvd's.



This monitor is not perfect, so dont go around saying its flawless. Please read my review!

Pros: This monitor is really huge. Has a lot of space and pulls a 1920x1200 resolution, great for watching movies. This monitor has some really great color for BRIGHT colors, NOT DARK (Read cons).

Cons: Well let me get started with the one lie people keep saying. "BLAH BLAH NO GHOSTING WHAT SO EVER" BULL! This monitor has terrible ghosting when it comes to video games. When it comes to black on black or dark colors, the ghosting is terribly noticeable! Play Half-Life or a recent dark colored game. You'll notice. Don't let the five star reviews trick you into buying this monitor. It may have won awards, but its cheap and trash. Another thing that this monitor really has bad is the back bleed. Anything black like HD Movies, has terrible back light bleeding on the top bottom left and right parts of the screen, making dark movies nearly impossible to watch. The buttons are behind the monitor. Whos bright idea was that? The buttons are confusing and are time consuming. Did I tell you this doesn't have a DVI Output? If your like me using your monitor for your 360, then this is going to cause issues. Luckily I'm using a VGA adapter for my Xbox 360, or this would also be an issues.

Other Thoughts: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW.
Don't let all those 5 star reviews get you into buying this monitor.

This monitor is great with bright colors, but when the dark colors pop in its horrible (mainly due to backlight bleeding)

Viewing angles on this thing stinks. Has no height adjustment.

No DVI output, only HDMI and VGA which makes you limits your options.

This monitor is great for normal use such as browsing and video editing or any desktop applications you may use, but video games please look elsewhere as it has terrible is noticeable ghosting (Mainly in dark areas)

Once you buy this monitor you CAN'T return it. So please look at my review and think about it.

What I did was to place a piece 1/2" thick board (or you may use foam, etc) to raise the monitor backend, so you can tilt the monitor lower.. It's not pretty but it works! (no one is looking from behind anyway)

First post!

I got this monitor about a month back for $270 off craigslist. The guy even had the warranty card!
Yes, the blacks aren't totally black, and there's the problem with vertical angle if you don't sit up straight, but you know what? For $270, I can live with that. Half of the time I just watch anime or play games with 360 controller on my bed, and it's pretty crisp. The biggest concern is that the monitor is overly bright on default setting is quite straining on the eyes, which doesn't really take long to change. The only problem is I like my monitors bright and end up hurting my eyes after a few hours of gaming, but that's really my own fault.

Regarding no DVI output, they include a HDMI->DVI cable (my old 20" only came with a VGA). I have not noticed any ghosting playing Fallout 3, which I consider to be a fairly dark game. I do sit up straight while gaming, which I'm going to guess is not the norm, so that might be where the problem is stemming from. The black probably isn't as dark as it should be, but again, for $270, I can live with that. The vertical viewing angle adjustment does suck though, only like 10-20 degrees. You can swivel it left and right more than that, for what it's worth.

All in all, stealing from a conclusion I read off some random blog: You get what you paid for, which isn't always necessarily a bad thing. For $300 ($270 in my case), you get an absolutely gigantic monitor that's cheaper than most 24" monitors with better contrast, colors, panel constructions, etc. To put things in perspective, 28" is 37% more viewing area than a 24" and almost double the viewing area of my old 20" monitor.

I can live with that.


edit: regarding color settings, I find that software calibrating it via my CCC works better than just adjusting the factory settings. However, as you have probably guessed from above, I really don't care about anything other than the fact that this monitor offers me 28" of real estate, so I'm not sure if I'm losing any details by software-calibrating the monitor as opposed to hardware.

Seconded. Before I used CCC I had pretty similar settings. 60/80/76/77/72 I believe. Like I said earlier, though, I like my monitor bright, but it's really bad for the eyes in the long run so you probably want to go with his settings.

The only other "negative" is that this monitor has virtually rendered my 20" useless in a dual monitor setup. I tried to set the 20" further back, but the viewing area seems so much smaller now that I'm used to the 28" the only thing I use it for is for Foobar and Sidebar gadgets.

I have owned one for almost a year now and haven't had any ghosting issues. It's my primary gaming monitor, by the way.

I've come to seriously distrust NewEgg reviews in general and when they have lines like the one quoted below, it just reinforces that view:

Serious grammatical issues aside, anyone with half a brain knows that their DVI cable is either carrying the exact same analogue data as a VGA and will work fine in that port or is carrying a digital signal identical to that of the HDMI and will work fine there.

"only" having HDMI and VGA inputs does not limit it in the least, it just might cost you $1.50 at monoprice to get the appropriate adapter.


I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe someone too dumb to realize what a DVI cable actually is has an otherwise accurate review. Especially when my own experiences with the product contradict his claims.


It does have some back light bleed and it does have a poor viewing angle, as all TN panels do. Once properly calibrated it has acceptable though never true to life colors, again like all its TN brothers. Honestly, I've owned 5 TN panels in the last 3 years and this is right on par with them.
