I just bought the 17" monitor which is $70 after $100 in rebates. I sent the $80 rebate USPS return receipt. It cost $4.40. I hope if I show them that I am serious about collecting my rebate they won't give me a hassel. I would rather pay for return receipt than for paypal, which seems to me like extorsion. You want that rebate? Heh-heh. Grease my palm.

All they have to say is that your paperwork got lost and resubmit copies...
Then what ?

Then I will resubmit my scanned copies. I hope they won't try that with me since I already demonstrated I am serious about receiving my rebate.

I received "confirmation of issuance of check" from onrebate in an email of June 27. ... That was about 10 days after I sent in the rebate material, and of course I did not expect to actually get a check before 2 months after the confirmation. ...

As of last month (October 20) I still had not received the $90 rebate, and checking at the onrebate site, my rebate was still all set. So I emailed them, as they specified in the confirmation email, and I have received no reply as of now, November 27.
...
I do have copies of all the documents, but of course my rebate hasn't been denied, nor have I been asked to resubmit.
Well, I emailed onrebate again on November 28 at a different email address I found on their help page, and received no response at all, as expected, but a few days afterward the info on their page about my rebate changed to "check sent" with a black X next to it and no date.

I still hadn't received anything as of today, so I was thinking that I might enlist PC Connection as some one recommended. But the check was in the mailbox. WOW! Those guys at onrebate really know how to play a practical joke, don't they? he he The check was dated December 18 and today is the 22. If you ever read the date on rebate checks, that is a VERY short time in the mail.

The info about my rebate on their site has changed to "payment sent" with a nice red check mark like all the other stages, and the date December 18.

With the $90 I almost have enough to get another Hanns-G and start this all over again. I like the monitor and I am very pleased with PC Connection (because I got the monitor the next business day after I order it.)

BTW, I did not get nasty -let alone obscene- in my email; just the facts; and thanked them in advance for fixing the problem, even though I was quite certain nothing would be done at that point. Most likely whoever would decide to do something was not whoever screwed it up. This may be the longest wait for a rebate check that I ever actually got, but not by a huge amount.

Has anyone done any serious gaming with this monitor? I wouldn't mind ditching my 2 CRTs and the price is right but only if I can do some decent gaming on it.

I've done plenty of gaming with this monitor and it runs flawlessly. Aside from one stuck pixel on the bottom center of this screen, this monitor is a beauty.

When I got my monitor, there was a ball of packing tape right on the UPC code! I though that PC Connection was trying to sabotage my rebate but I was able to carefully remove it and luckly both my rebates went through fine.

Oh and I just received my $100 rebate from onrebate yesterday after a long 5 months! I got this monitor for $110 AR.

I mounted the center speaker of my Logitech z-5450 speaker set on top of this monitor with Velcro and it is just looks amazing. Great monitor.. for the price I wouldn't think twice!

Anyone know if there is any difference between this one and the one previously offered? I noticed the model #s are slightly different.

Rebates are not for the weak of heart

What does your OnRebate status say?

Yesterday, the first day after the holiday, after finally getting my check last Friday, I got a second $90 check for the rebate, dated 1 day after the first. I have no idea why. What goes on at onrebate? Today I got an email from onrebate, after getting no reply in response to my emails, and the first indication they even were aware I existed since June; saying don't try to cash both checks because they had the same check number, one would bounce and my bank would charge me; sorry; and don't reply to this email because the address will bounce emails. Thanks. That was at least an indication that they hadn't stopped payment on the check that is in the process of being processed at the bank.

It is nice to get all this attention after getting total neglect for six months. I'm getting all warm inside and teared up

Anyway, this deal is still on. But I notice there is no free shipping on orders over $250. That seems to have ended December 15.

Just order this monitor, can't beat 99 + shipping. Hopefully the rebates won't be a big deal.

How are the speakers in this thing? I know they probably ain't to great but how would you think that will be for a 4 year old childs computer? He'll be watching TV and dvd's and playing some little kids games on it.

the rebate is a big deal, unfortuantely - seems like they were trying to get a rush on sales before xmas, offering a huge rebate, and then just not giving any out unless people came knocking on their door looking for their change.. not a bad plan if you want to be sleazy i suppose

i submitted all my information perfectly, i made sure i had everything they wanted, even included some extra numbers off the box to ensure that i had the correct info. however i received an email with my status that read "invalid" and listed off various reasons...

Status Detail: Invalid.
Invalid Reasons: Hanns-G 19" LCD JC199DPB Missing Serial Number
Missing Order Number
Hanns-G 19" LCD JC199DPB Missing UPC
Missing receipt
Missing Original Serial Number

now not only do I know that all of this was submitted correct, but I know for a FACT that I didn't screw up EVERYTHING that i sent in! how can they sit there and say this stuff is all wrong?? impossible.

so my post is twofold - a) be wary of these huge rebates, and b) do you suggest I start my bitching process with the rebateHQ company or go right to PCConnection as some people mentioned they have had luck there?

Also I did not keep copies, curse me for having some foolish inner faith in the good of mankind and corporate america thinking as long as I doublechecked that everything I sent in would be accurate, I wouldn't need to safeguard myself against being taken advantage of. lesson learned. if i do contact rebateHQ and they request that i send in my copies, what should i do then? i have a few ideas but wanted to know if anyone has one that works - shoot i'll send them the whole flippin monitor box with the upc cut perfectly out of the side along with another printout of my order from pcconnection, along with my credit card bill.

so frusturating to be so blatantly abused like this

I would start with the rebate company and see what they say. Insist that you sent it all in. You should NEVER EVER have faith in the rebate companies. ALWAYS make copies. There are often issues with rebates. If you had copies most of the time all you would have to do is fax them the copies. Anyway, start with the rebate company and then escalate it to PC Connection if need be. You may be out of luck without the copies but you never know. Good luck.

On a side note, I got in on this deal a while back with the 196D version of this monitor and it is great. PC Connection shipped fast and the rebates came without any issues. The rebate I had was through onrebate.com however.

The original link is dead, but the deal is still there on PC Connection's website.

Reviews on Amazon are pretty good.

Shipping is $16.76; a little high, but at $99 AR can't complain.

Aw, heck, I gotta pull the trigger on this one.

Deal appears to be dead. The cheapest Hanns-g on the site is a 17" for $140.
This item, 19" Analog Digital LCD:
Item#: 6732798
Platform: N Mfr#: HC-194D
is $170, with no mention of a rebate. Too bad, $99 is a steal.

I got my rebate, but I have to wonder what planet some of you are on if this is a "good" monitor.

It's the worst modern monitor I've seen. It's usable for basic 2D or 3D, but that's about all, in most ways monitors are scrutinized for comparison it is inferior. Would be better to say it's a good DEAL to get a 19" for $100 AR, but in the grand scheme of things you could close your eyes and randomly pick a different 19" (for higher cost) and expect it to be better.

That doesn't mean I don't like that I paid only $100, but it is potentially misleading to someone who hasn't compared them in person (since the specs are a bit misleading, for example the contrast is not comparable to other monitors with same #s), to anything else modern, what they're actually getting.

mindless1....you must have recieved a bad one. Mine is great(HC194D). I did have to wait 6 months for those Parago @$$holes to send my $100, and thats after they tried to postpone it during my second call.

What could be "bad" about mine? It's working in every way, but just isn't as good as most modern monitors. I think it is no different than anyone else's HC194D, ie- worse than most modern branded monitors. Will it show a picture? Sure. Color? Yes. Pixel precision? Of course, it has to it's an LCD. What it lacks is contrast. That makes or breaks an LCD, IMO. You can adjust it so the black is darker but then you lose most of the greyscale perception. Maybe nobody else cares about this, I often find online pictures ridiculously overcontrasted to the point where you can't see half the details.

For example, this watch, , is grossly overcontrasted (regardless of monitor). It might look ok on a HC194D, but it doesn't look like that in person with normal lighting, nor with full greyscale depth on a monitor with good contrast. Essentially half the pixel information can't be seen because of the photographer's error, or editor's error, then even more of that information is lost when the monitor has to be adjusted to get the blacks down enough that it doesn't look more like a dk. grey than black (blank) screen.

I suppose it dpends on what you want in an LCD. I did want one that was cheap for a secondary system and am happy with it for it's price, but could not recommend it for primary use or any critical viewing.
