I have to admit this does sound a bit disheartening. $90 is a large amount of cash to have tied up in an iffy rebate. I hope that PC Connection will stand by the consumer should Onrebate try to pull something shady. I will report any issues with the rebate/purchase as I get them. Good luck.

Ordered yesterday, received today in SOCAL (!) Mfg. date Mar 2006, so not old stock. There will for sure continue to be some deals on these 4:3 19 inchers as the market moves to widescreen, but I don't see how you can beat $130 OTD AR. OnRebate has worked for me before.

Hanns G or V-Series LCD?

About the same price, one has DVI but the other one is from Staples...more reliable.

Hanns-G is $130 and the V-series is $170. For $40 less you get a 3 year warranty, DVI and built in speakers (big deal I know). You do of course have to deal with the rather large $90 rebate and the other $20 one with the Hanns-G. I don't know much about either of these monitors, but based on the warranty and the bottom line price, I chose the Hanns-G. They are probably both decent monitors for the price.

Update... I just called PC Connection CS because my order hasn't been shipped nor my card charged yet even though I ordered on 5/4. Within seconds after navigating through the phone menu I was connected to a real person! I was told that they were behind on credit card processing and they were picking my order as we spoke and the page had not been updated yet. So...If you ordered and it hasn't shipped yet have patience. I am impressed that I actually talked to a real person almost immediately and she was able to give me an answer instantly. Lets hope the rest of the process goes smoothly...

Can anyone comment on the picture quality? I'll probably be using this monitor for 80% word processing and 20% games. TIA!

I've only used it for one night now- and no games- but it's quite crisp and easy on the eyes. I'm switching from a 21" CRT and so far I call this quite an acceptable upgrade. I'll see how it handles HL2 and COD2 tonight- those are the most graphic-intensive games I have I'm afraid.

I'm using a 6600LE. I don't recall the resolution that I'm running at (at work right now)

(edit: I did find that 100% brightness blasts the colors- it is much too bright. I'm running at 85% brightness right now and may well drop that to 75% once I start gaming. Not a fault or anything, just a quirk)

Got it a few hours ago via DHL. Not bad. Have it set up via DVI (Yes the cable is included) at work to test out in a dual monitor setup and so far it is nice. I have a Dell 193FP and it is as good if not slightly better on the Hanns-G. I really can't test it out too much because it is tucked in the corner of my desk and it is pretty hard to see up close. Other than that, not dead/stuck pixels that I have seen and so far so good. On to the rebates...

Thanks OP. Last night about 5 PM CST I decided to order this LCD. I got it this morning at 11 AM. I live about 600 miles away from the distribution center. Talk about fast. I don't have any dead pixels. It will take me sometime to figure out the controls and adjust brightness and color. 19" is really big, my last monitor was a 17" CRT. I'm happy with this purchase and am hoping the rebates come through.
I think this is a lot better deal than the Dell, especially for $130 with a 3 year parts and labor warranty. I ordered a logitech keyboard for $20 so I wouldn't have to pay the ~$15 shipping charge.

Monitor came in yesterday, very fast delivery.

First impressions, not bad for the money. I do notice the lack of colors, especially when viewing fleshtones, like peoples faces (I have a TV tuner in the PC) and that sort of thing.

(BTW I am using a DVI, with a res of only 800X600)

This might be because I have yet to adjust the brightness down as someone else mentioned, it is very bright out of the box.

I also noticed a very slight flickering of the lamp (right side only) when I first turned it on but seems to have gone away after about 20 seconds and has not repeated.

For a price that's almost to good to be true I'd say this is a pretty good deal.

Everything indicates this is the deal for me, but the rebates still worries me. Conflicting reports on the onrebate.com reliability... That combined with the reports of falling LCD prices

Yeah, I thought about the falling prices too. In fact I wasn't going to get this deal until I mentioned it to my wife and surprisingly she said go for it. I have been quite happy with my Samsung 950P that I got years ago in a Dell deal. Even with dropping prices, it will likely be a long time until the prices get down to <$130 for a 19" LCD w/DVI. I was on the fence with this one, but I eventually bit and am not looking back.

Ive done about 6 OnRebate rebates in the last 6 months, totalling maybe $200. They can deposit rebates directly to Paypal, and they will expedite a rebate for about 10% of the rebate amount. I've gotten one week turnaround from product purchase to rebate hitting my Paypal account, and haven't had any problems to date. I'm a lot more accepting of their rebates now than any 10-12 week MIR.

that sure sounds reassuring, I might jump on this if nothing else shows up in a day or two...

I'd suggest setting it to 1280x1024 when you're watching TV, it's the native resolution of the monitor and should give you better colors. You might also want to test which refresh rate gives you a better picture, 60Hz or 75Hz.

Edit: and yes, turning the brightness and contrast down will help (unless you're trying for a face tan =)

I had the brightness and contrast at 100/100 at work where the ambient light is bright, but at home it is set at 55/65 and it is still too bright at the moment.
As for the flesh tone issue, yes run it at 1280 x 1024 and see what it looks like. Did you have a CRT before this?

Good to hear that gbuskirk has had positive experiences with onrebate. That makes me feel a little better about the deal. So far I am 100% happy with this monitor.

I'll try your suggestions. I just assumed the lack of smooth color gradiants was because the monitor only has 6 bit color, not 8. Could be the TV tuner is lacking and I never noticed before on the CRT.

Yeah.

I've never done a TD or Onrebate rebate, mostly because of their poor reputation, but the ability to do an expidited rebate is what pushed me over the edge on this deal.

hmmm...I dunno. -_- Anybody has experience with PC Connection...they seem TDish.

PC Connection has been around since the ORIGINAL IBM PC! They were one of the top mail order companies in the late 80's and early 90's due to their great prices and fantastic customer service. When I bought my 384k memory card from them in 1982 (god I'm getting old!), the rep on the line was the founder of the company. Their prices today aren't quite as good, but I think its' because they aren't willing to stop with the great customer service

FYI there is a 19"W monitor coming out fairly soon, the HW191D, that should also be aggresively priced.

Just in case anyone out there would prefer the wide 16:10 ratio.
