Hans Zimmer

On a sheer musical/skill level, Zimmer is amazing, almost like a Deity, and I would still argue quite original - but the progression of the overall sound tends to feel predictable in many ways. That's a more "zoomed-out" view, because up close, it's brilliance at play.

If you listen to his music by itself form one movie ST to the next you can see a trend. Honestly its about the only time I notice it. Otherwise he makes it fit the movie so well the experience is "Wow - that part of the movie was exciting and the music was awesome!"

Zimmer knows epic music.

Zimmer and Shore are my favorites at the moment.

But Zimmer is certainly a cut above..

Zimmer, Williams, Shore are all great, I also really enjoy John Murphy Sunshine has an amazing soundtrack as well as 28 days later

Zimmer's scores can frequently make a movie very exciting but listen to the soundtracks from The Rock, Gladiator, and Pirates of the Caribbean consecutively and try to tell me that they don't sound VERY similar. He reuses a great deal of work which can end up being distracting.
