A lot of teachers and professors seem to love what they do.
That's because teaching is easy.
Yeah I said it. Teaching is easy.
Are you kidding? It can be full of heartbreak when students are disinterested, when students ignore their own potential, when students simply disappoint you, when you feel you've disappointed students/colleagues, when colleagues disrespect your work, when others in general disrespect your work, or when your love of your work conflicts with your non-academic life. It can be a world of stress when you're trying to find the right school to work for, create curriculum you are happy with, make tenure, publish, research, make a stand on your opinions, or conform to an institution's stances on controversial issues in your field.
Teachers and professors make it
look easy because they love what they do. They wouldn't be able to keep doing it unless they loved it.
That said, the happiest employed people I've ever seen were the Classics Professors and Philosophy Professors at the university I graduated from.
