I did live under commie/socialist rule and now I reside in the US (LEGALLY) so I can tell from my own experience from both sides.

US is not perfect, far from it but at least we have the opportunity/chance to see/hear/participate/discuss of other news sources that openly criticize the government/big corporations/powerful people/etc. without fear of "disappearing" or turn up dead from "accidents".

Try to do that in commie/socialist countries such as China/N. Korea/Vietnam/Cuba/etc. and see how well you will be treat.

Oh, UberRed, did you chart exclude the number of non violent drug offenders?

It would have been irrelevant, they are incarcerated alongside real criminals, just proves my point more really.

If you read the post I am not saying we are criminals. But somehow in the land of the free we are the most jailed -far more then places accepted by the world as totalitarian systems.

The deflection thing is really obvious, facts do not care about if your nationalist ego is bruised.

China can't afford the centuries it takes to tame the barbarity out of Christianity. Of all the rights the Chinese don't have this should be the last thing to concern them.

Did anyone even read the original story? The Chinese government was opposed to having Easter Mass at a "open public square." How would the Pope like it if Buddhist monks, Jewish Rabbis, Muslim clerics, etc. hold public ceremony at the Vatican? I don't think the Chinese authorities would mind if the Christian people assembled peacefully and quietly in their own property or church.

I don't necessarily disagree with you but that is a terrible analogy. You know the Vatican is a religious city right? And "open public square" is not really comparable?

The Vatican is a country recognized by the US and other world powers. It has its own strict rules and regulations. If you're a citizen of the Vatican, you have to live by their rules and can't just willy-nilly do whatever you please. There is only one religion recognized in the Vatican and they don't tolerate any other religions there.

So what you're saying is that China is like the Vatican? And that's supposed to be a defense? The Vatican is a tiny neighborhood. China is a huge country. Why are you trying to compare them? Terrible analogy.

Several supposed modern European countries have similar anti-religious minority policies like China, so just choose another country or set of countries if you're going to impose some arbitrary restriction based on size. Muslims, Scientologists, etc. are persecuted in several European nations.

It's interesting how the people criticizing the Chinese are the same ones who defend the same policies in Europe.

I point these things out because I still believe in the USA. I am a idealist at times.

Let's have an agreement then. You stop bitching about the US and I'll stop with Mao and his crew. Or how about this- You keep bringing up tangents to throw off discussion and we'll all tag you with Godwins Law.

There are many things one can point at and say is wrong with America but a key difference with China is can say it. By this time you'd be imprisoned. The more you complain the better we look in that regard.

I could care less what you say about Mao. Nor is China my country. Personally I think Nixon made a big mistake not leaving them isolated. It doesent really work (Cuba for example) but at least it keeps the state capitalist systems from growing somewhat.

Intolerant state-atheism Mao / Stalin style is not any better. The western formula of believe / practice whatever you like as long as you do not harm others is a better approach than purging religion (something you cannot do peacefully).

Like I said, brainwashed. USA is the violent prison of the world.
How does the per-capita executions differ from America and China? Sure you can have a lower (published / reported) per-capita incarceration rate if you execute more of your prisoners. It is common for China to execute drug traffickers.

The gulags of the soviet union didnt have shit on the "land of the free". Wake up idiots.
How were the living conditions / medical care for those living in Stalin's gulags compared to a typical American prison?

Just playing devils advocate here, screw chinas government btw.
Glad to see that you see the faults in Chinese style Communism (the political / corporate leaders of which (post-Mao era) display arguably purer capitalist characteristics than Americans).

Wait... So what about the American Muslims in NYC who wanted to build the mosque and community center?

I do not see the government arresting them or preventing them from doing so, only some people mouthing off about it. Muslim religious ceremonies even take place at the Pentagon (another location in the 9/11 attacks).

Correct, socialists refer to these systems as state capitalist. They are generally far more brutal to their people then systems that are actually democratic since there is no accountability to the people.

What about them? They should be able to. I haven't heard that our government is doing to them what's being done in my OP. The right of peaceful expression whether religious or political should be universal. That it happens outside of US borders is irrelevant to me.

This reminds me of Carlins story about America bombing the shit out of brown people.

Kill all the mofos you want, as long as they are your countrymen, but cut into our brown bombing action outside your borders? You are in for it!

(explaining why we dont bomb fellow white folks) -except Germans who keep trying to get a cut of the action.

Thats our job! BOOM!
