So todays the day where thousands of college applicants find out their decisions from all eight Ivy League schools. I only applied to Cornell out of the eight, but I'm pretty damn nervous over here. Wish me luck!

I'll wish you a non-sarcastic good luck. Admission to an Ivy is pretty much a crap shoot for most people, no matter what their grades, test scores, and extracurriculars are.

They should send them out tomorrow so you don't know if you were actually accepted or it was just an April Fool's Day joke.

Good luck. But realize that there are more than 8 colleges in this country where you can get a top-notch education. If you don't get it, it's not the end of the world. But your father won't love you anymore.

In all seriousness, let me ask you a few questions.
1) what major/field do you plan on going into? In other words, what do you like to do?
2) How much of a concern is money to you?

I see you're living in NJ, so I suppose an esteemed state school (a la UC schools or U. Michigan) isn't an appealing option for you. Depending on what you plan on doing after undergraduate college, your undergraduate college may not really matter. Case in point - my GA (graduate advisor, basically an RA but graduate student) went to University of Wisconsin-Madison, which isn't exactly high up on the list of prestigious colleges. Nevertheless, he's here at the U. of Pennsylvania med school, which is one of the best in the country. Working hard in college is what matters. The name is just a fringe benefit. Don't fret if you don't get in, it's not that big of a deal anyway oh, and Dirigible states the truth. I went over to College Confidential and was amazed that some people didn't get in while I did.

No, I totally understand. I got into BU on Friday with quite a significant amount of scholarship money, so even if Cornell doesn't work out, I'm fine and content with where I'm going.

That said, Cornell has been a dream of mine for who knows how long. Thanks for the good luck, everyone!

speaking of Cornell/Ithaca, my friend wants to transfer out of Cornell because she hates it there she's like, "well, you know how Cornell is in the middle of nowhere? Yeah, it was fun for a little bit... not so much anymore. It sucks."

If you don't get in, do you have your Burger King application filled out?

I'm looking at business management. I need an MBA, so you're right, undergrad doesn't matter as much as it is made out to.
2). It's a concern, but not a HUGE concern.

Colege Confidential is just too damn addictive. It can really make a person feel like shit, though. Some kids there are just ridiculous overacheivers.

You'll be fine doing business management. Unless you go to an undergraduate business school like Wharton, what you learn and your experience gained during college will be more important in the future. All the Whartonites I've talked to say that Wharton is overrated anyway.

I hate CC too - it always made me feel more nervous about admissions. Personally, I felt that the best thing to do was to hope for the worst. If you don't get in, no big deal, you were prepared for it; if you get in, BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. Worked out for me alright

Had 2 friends of mine get rejected to Princeton today.

They're already in top-notch non-Ivy schools though so they aren't really bothered..

Double epic fail--rejected from Penn and Cornell. Saw this coming after getting waitlisted by Northwestern, and so it'll be between the top UCs and Tufts for me.

I second SLCentral that CC is addictive and depressing... as is Facebook, if you know multiple people who got into Yale/Stanford/Penn early or whatever
