If you sign up with Harbor Freight, they tend to send coupons to you every Saturday. $5 off of $50 and $10 off of $100. I end up spending far more than intended when I go there but it's a great store.

Depends how much you expect to use it. If you buy something that you expect to last 100 hours of usage for $50 and you only use it for 75 hours, and you buy something you expect to last 500 hours for $250 but only use it for 75 hours, which is the better deal?

Maybe this'll help...

I received a Sears Special Edition 10.8v Cordless Drill for Christmas. Nice, but won't make it through a door (drilling for doorknobs/locks).

A friend has a Milwaukee 12v, spec-wise only slightly more powerful than mine. I turn mine on, it spins. I turn on his, the torque, at the lowest setting, is so powerful, it jerks dramatically in my hands. He's had his for 4 years. I've had mine for 4 months.

For putting a bike together, mine'll do. Building a deck? The Milwauekee.

As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Gotta bump this thread, just because I am headed there tomorrow to pick up some pneumatic tools for the air compressor I bought today. I look at it like this, 5 tools from harbor freight equals one tool from someplace like sears or whatnot, figure it will last for a good lont time because it is not like I will be using it every day.

Here's the trick to buying stuff from Harbor Freight.

Go to their website and click on "Order from a printed catalog".

In the item number, in the first box put in the digits before the 'dash' number of your item.
In the LAST box, but in the alpha characters.
Now the secret, put in a number in the middle box, starting with zero, and then click ADD ITEM.

If you keep trying this, eventually you will get that item for a lot less than the regular price.
Print it out, take it with you in the store, and ask them to do a web match.

NOTE: Just because it comes up at a lower price doesn't mean it may not come up at an even LOWER price at the next digit.
Also, if you want to try a different number, you MUST delete the one in your cart!

Example of their pricing.

40131-0vga Hose reel with 30' of hose $29.99
40131-1vga Same as above, $19.97
40131-2vga Same as above, $24.99

Add the -1vga to your cart, print out your cart and take into the store OR just order online.

Note2: Name brand products tend to not have much room in their pricing if at all. Their house branded items though (central machinery, central pneumatic, etc) can usually be had for 50% off regular pricing.

Note3: if you think this is cheating, just look at one of their printed catalogs sometime. They usually have several covers all stapled together and the items on 1 page will be exactly the same as the item on the next page or inside the catalog and the only difference is the -X number. I think they run the same catalog and just include more and more covers depending on the discount they are willing to 'share' with you.

Now for some nice stuff there
37151 Horizontal/vertical metal cutting bandsaw
33684 7x10" metal lathe
44991 Mini Mill
47257 6" digital caliper ($20 !!)

Hey guys, just in case anyone is wondering, the $9.99 drill on page one is actually pretty decent. We bought a bunch at work because our delivery guys kept losing our DeWalt drills. The guys have been using them daily for about 3 months now and none have crapped out yet!

For those new to the store, the bins along the fornt when you walk in are the best place to find insane deals on the smallest of items such as screwdrivers, batteries, etc.

Hey, Probedude
Thanks for the tip, saved me some money today, as I bought several pneumatic tools. 1/2" impact wrench, paint spray gun, siphon feed sandblaster, air filter/regulator combo, 3" air cut off tool and some hose. Probably saved me $25 or $30 if not more.

I will only scan future ads if there is enough interist. It takes hours to scan everything in, and some of the HF ads will take a whole afternoon to scan in. It is only worth my time if I know others can use them.
