They are pretty different. I find Crispin's to be the most refined of what I've tried so far.
Angry Orchard is meh, ok. The ginger one is nasty, too much flavoring added (and for the record I LOVE ginger.) I prefer both Magners and Woodchuck, and I buy Hornsby's dry for a regular cheap drinking cider.
Also, t3h wimmens love hard cider. Most of my female friends will opt for that over wine during a casual hangout.
I've been meaning to go down and tour a few of the cideries in Sonoma County soon. Will report back if I ever get around to it.

Come a little further north and wine taste in Hopland, CA sometime. Check out McNab Ridge and Cesar Toxqui for the wine and Campovida for the gardens. If you get as far north as Ukiah, eat at Oco Time, Patrona (good cocktails!) and visit Simaine winery. If you like cognac (brandy here in the US, I know) make an appointment at Germain Robain (sp?), one of the world's best distilleries.Have a list of cideries in Sonoma County? Wouldn't mind spending a day checking them out. GF and I go to Napa/Sonoma about once every other month.
Hard cider can be good.
My favorite is Dickens Cider
Just love a hard Dickens Cider.

Hm, this guy knows what he's talking about...If it's sold commercially, as a rule it is terrible. If you can find a micro-brew or an orchard that makes it under the table, you'll probably love the stuff.
In the meantime, just mix apple cider and bourbon for an approximate substitute.
