Hard Disk-To disconnect or not?

What is disconnect?

I am using ATA100(UDMA 5). This option is available to me after I install the HDD.

1: Should I disable or enable disconnect?

2: What is the benefit of enable or disconnect it?? Will there be any performance loss if disable or enable?

IIRC,it's a scsi option for removable SCSI drives!

SCSI disconnect is not a 'removable' thing. Disconnect allows a command to be performed in pieces instead of tying up the bus throughout the whole process (like IDE does). A typical command would be kinda like

(arb) (select) (send read command) (disconnect) bus is now free to do other things
(arb) (reselect) (send data) (command complete)


Now for an IDE drive im not certain if the checky box has any effect. There is an IDE command called Read DMA Queued and Write DMA Queued which kinda allows disconnect. I dont think any of the drivers and very few drives (IBM ones do) implement it. I would like to hear more on this if anyone knows.
