Hard drive advice ?

Well, I have read headlines here about WD hard drives and the a7n8x mb. Are they really a big prob?

I need some recommendations on a good dependable hard drive....quiet .....

I used to swear by maxtor until I just now looked at their data sheet and saw that now their warranties are a measley 1yr....when they used to be 3 year warranties...that tells me their quality has gone downhill to the point that they won't stand behind their products like they used to....

SO now I need to get a good hard drive from a quality manufacturer that will back it with a warranty that shows it is a good quality product.

I read WD is popular, but I am leery of WD because I had one a couple years ago and that think would "thunK" everytime I turned around...brand new too....and because of the headlines in the forums about them and the a7n8x...any advice?...thanks..t

AFAIK, all the manufacturers have gone to 1 year on their warranty.

I've had many problems with IBM.

A few with WD.

A few with Maxtor.

I'm using Seagate drives now. Too early to tell. All is fine so far.

boomerang is right. All of them have or are going to 1 year warranties. The reality is *most* drives that survive past the first year survive for all three. By having three year warranties, they have to keep more money in reserve to pay for possible returns. This takes away from R&D, expansion, etc.
