Hard Drive and OS limitations question ...

asus p4c800e deluxe mb....windows xp pro....is there a size limitation on the size of hard drive, and if so what is the max hard drive size it will recognize without a controller card? I know previously the OS's were limited to 127 gigs.....thanks..t

No, there arent. I'm currently running a 200 GB Maxtor SATA drive from the Mainboard controller, and it works fine. im using a A7N8X Dlx, and if im not mistaken... it older than that p4 board you are using

Unless you are using Windows 98 or Me then you shouldn't need to worry about size limitations.

I'm pretty sure the limit is to the range of terabytes.. so I don't think you have anything to worry about

Windows XP (Windows 2000) is also limited to drives smaller than 137GB. Unless you have SP1 (at least SP3) installed. You do have SP1 (at least SP3) installed, right? Previous posters proably assumed you did, and you should. So long as your hard drive controller supports 48-bit LBA and your OS is updated to support 48-bit LBA you will have no problem.
