Hard Drive Blues....Please help me out

I would very much appreciate anyone who can help me out.
Problem: XP was very corrupted and would not boot so I went to reinstall XP on the same partition (C of my 75 GB hard drive. During the install I noticed that what used to be "D:" now said "Unpartitioned" and what used to be "E:" was now "D:". I had many important files on what used to be "D:". I have XP up and running, I need help with what programs, utilities, etc. that will help me get those files. Please email me at chrisojeda@Yahoo.com or post comments here. I've spent a lot of time trying different things and nothing I can think of works...hopefully you can help me

I have the same problem, but mine is with the 1st drive attached to my ATA 100 controller card, my other 3 hard drives are detected fine. My cd-rw and DVD are fine on the other IDE Chain.

A little more info -

Windows XP device manager sees the drive. but windows explorer doesn't. Fdisk sees it as a non-dos partition, but it was active in windows XP prior to the re-install of XP. Partition magic says if i format it for fat32 i will lose all data - I need the data - it is all of my e-mail and bookmarks.

Also my 2nd drive is showing by Partition magic as Bad, but windows sees it fine.

Are you running NTFS or FAT32 on that partition? If FAT32, have you tried a floppy boot disk from Win98 or or Win9.x system? Iasked someone in the office here and they told me they've used a piece of software called GETDATABACK, he sent me this link http://www.runtime.org/. Maybe they have a demo you can download and try?

thanks - it worked - i am very thankful - i have all of my data back
