I'm having a problem that just seems rather strange to me. I've got two IDE hard drives, one set to master, the other set to slave. Also have one WD Raptor on SATA, which is where my OS is installed. My motherboard is a Gigabyte 8KNXP.
Lately the master IDE drive has been crapping out and making strange beeping noises at POST and just not spinning up, so I wanted to remove it and replace the drive. When I attempted to do that however, I'll get the "no OS" or "NTLDR MISSING" errors. I don't see why though, as the OS is installed on the Raptor, not on this IDE drive. The Raptor is set to boot and active in XP. Did Windows somehow decide to install something to that master IDE drive? And as for the BIOS, I've tried setting SCSI to be the first boot device, and I've tried setting HD-0, and I still get the same problem with that master IDE drive out. The strange thing I've found is that since day one, I've had to set the BIOS to boot from HD-0...but shouldn't it be SCSI?
Under Computer Management, the Raptor is set to Boot, but I also notice the master IDE drive is set to System. The slave IDE drive isn't set to anything. Maybe this is the problem?
Either way, I'm stumped.
