Hard Drive churning/clicking/noisy :(

I got a 160GB Western Digital SATA hard drive. I got it about 10 months ago when i built my system.
Now, yesterday, it started making noise, you know like clicking/churning/ sound that old hard drives make when they are asked to do a task. Well my new one is doing that. How wack is that.

windows are taking longer to load, internet is slower because every time i go to a page, i hear the drive churn and then it goes to the page. Is the drive dying?

Now get this... This is my second WD HD, first one crapped out on me and they RMA'd it about 7 months ago. Now, My original hard drive had 3 years warranty. I just checked on this hard drive (refurb ofcourse because it was RMA from WD) and wd.com says the warranty is expired. They provide 90 day warranty on RMA drives. WTH? did I loose my warranty when I RMAed the first time?

And by now I meant 5 minutes ago. What you are hearing are clicks of death. If hard drive's every make any new noises, it's usually an early sign of failure. I've never had a drive that lived a week past extreme clicking.

Also, you said things are moving more slowly. Thats a surefire sign. When it happened to me, the computer would lock up until the drive caught up after clicking for two/three minutes straight.

Well since its dying, and thats crap.......I need suggestions on a new drive. Keep in mind that this is a replacement in emergency so I dont have a lot of money to dish out. $100-$120 or so.
I would like another SATA drive, and would like to stay away from WD. I've been eyeing (sp?) the seagate barracuda 7200.7 drives, what do you guys think. I can get a 250 gig for my price range....good idea to get such a big drive?

DFT that will tell you if your hd if bad(most of the time).

Why use Ibm/Hitachi diagnostic on a wd drive?
Use a WD diag.

There's a lot of subjective opinions when it comes to what brand is better. In your case, obviously WD is not one of them. In my opinion, Maxtor, Seagate and even Hitachi are the preferred ones. Samsungs are reliable too but they tend to be slower. Personally go with the Maxtor.

well to my surprise it was still under warranty. they are sending me another drive. Now what is good program to make an exact duplicate of my current drive to the new drive. Don't want to lose all the info.
