A friend I work with has a computer (Dell Inspiron) that just bit tteh dust the other day. Out of the blue she turned it on and the BIOS said no IDE 0 found...basically her HD died w/ no warning signs. Since all of her work is on there for her PhD its' pretty important that we get this issue resolved so that she can get her information off of the drive, but data recovery costs upwards of $800. Anyone know another way to do this or where we can get it done for a little less $$. I mean this doesnt even post to windows. Do they make external enclosure for laptop HD's that I could hook up to my desktop?

Any help would be great

Thanks

Yes, you can either do an enclosure or a IDE connector for the laptop drive and hook it up to a desktop to see if you can recover the data from there (which is what I would try).

Good Luck,
Erik

Yes, as long as it's wired up you should be able to access it, no enclosure necessary.

Also, file recovery software may not be a factor, but just in case, here's a link to a free app that some have said worked nicely for them. http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/download.htm

And for the record, if they're giving out PHD's to people who don't know how to backup data the world is in quite a state!

Your HDD does not shown up at BIOS, therefore, it is electronic or physical problem. Any software could be able to fix your drive.

If you really need your data back, sent your media to JP idata Recovery Lab,
They provide quick service, free return shipping and charge reasonable price.
