hmm... I am looking at the best buy link for that 160 WD, and its showing up as $129.99-$13-$80(rebate)=$36.99.
thats 0.2311875cents per gig, pretty damn cheap
wonder if I should pick that up or try to get in on that 16MB PATA maxtor deal (28cents per gig)

I assume the maxtor would be quite a bit faster but at 5cents per gig difference hmm...

added the 300GB drive in the shopping cart for $159.99 with free shipping, and then proceeded to check the rebates and they are both mail in, $20 and $70 as you suggested.
wouldnt that make it $69.99 total after the two rebates (0.23cents per gig)?
dont forget the free shipping part either.

I believe the Serial are newer technology and a little faster, but you need a motherboard that accepts them. What ever happened to the 40 to 80 gig drives? Don't make them any more?

correct me if I am wrong, but PATA still has plenty bandwidth to avoid saturation unless used in some high demanding RAID setup.

The main going thing about SATA is cable tidiness and being more future proof. With all other factors being equal, the 16MB PATA would be faster I think.

at OUTPOST YESTERDAY!

Can't find it today and thought it was good for next few days..

holding out for .25 - .30 per gig AND 5yr warr. AND 16mb buffer!

bought me a 300GB Maxtor IDE at CompUSA as a data drive. They also had a Hi-Val dual layer DVD burner for $40 after rebate which turned out to be a Ben-Q when I opened it.

Getting 2 of the 300 GB maxtors. Already have a Maxtor 160GB and it runs much more smoothly than my WD 120JBRTL.

I am finally going to use my epox 8K5A2+ RAID controller. Have been dallying on setting up a fault tolerance/backup solution. Recently had a bad experience with the Hitachi drive on my notebook, so now I am scrambling.

Anybody have thoughts on getting 2 of the CUSA/Maxtor rebates at one address - one in my wife's name but same address, different credit card? Will it fly? The rebate small print is not clear if this is allowed. Surely she should be eligible for the rebate, and not disqualified just for being married to me!?

It's *usually* one rebate per household. Just send one to your work or a friend/neighbor's house. It's always worked for me.
