Here is the quick info of my drive:

A few weeks ago I turned on my box and I hear a clicking noise and I knew it was the head that went bad. It was the master and it didn?t matter because that was the drive that held my OS and my programs. So I went out and replaced it. Then 5 days letter my external drive which held all my work went down the drain. I made back-ups 3 weeks before it went sour the problem is I did a lot of work between my last back-up and the crash.
I sent my drive to a company called ?Disk Doctors? and they are telling me it is very hard to find a drive with the same DCM spec and date. I asked them why they just couldn?t get the same model (model number above) and take the head out of that and replace it with the head that went bad. Because to me businesses want to minimize costs and maximize profit so they would keep using the same head but change things like firmware and maybe the circuit board.
They just responded that they must have the same hardware period for this to work. I then called up Western Digital to talk to them about head failure and they told me they it could be replaced with any 120gb head that is the ball baring type.
My question is am I just being hard headed or is the theory a fact and all that needs to be replaced is the head (like I have been saying and WD said as well) and it should work? Has anyone else been down this road before and if so what is your story.
