Hard drive for gaming ?

space really isn't an issue on my 80gb intel ssd. I only keep 2 or 3 games installed. If i want to play a different one, it installs from my server in a couple of minutes.

Im pretty sure the reason people are standoffish on SSDs isn't because of the space its because an 80GB SSD costs 300$ which is the same as a 2TB platter drive.

my Windows drive currently has 92 GB of stuff on it and thats just the OS and programs, until 100+ GB SSDs cost less then 1$ per GB they wont be worth it for the general consumer

Agreed. This is especially true when you consider the footprint of a Windows 7 64-bit installation is much larger than 32-bit. I do believe that solid state is the future for end user computing though. Obviously platter drives excel at data storage roles, but as SSD tech matures and economy of scale kicks in they are going to get much cheaper and more widespread.

I've been looking at a 500GB Caviar Black as a Primary Drive and have a Seagate 500GB 7200 as a secondary music/movies/backup drive.

I play WoW pretty much so from what I'm reading this setup should be perfect.

wow, don't let that stop you as they will run you $20 or so....

op - i have used ssds, 15kscsi, 7.2k, 10kscsi, 10kraptor, etc and while the ssds are the fastest, like people say, they premium is rather high. the next would be the 15k because of seek times, but again, it only benefits you when first load the game and during map changes - not much anything else.

after using all i have, i would not recommend going to 10-15k or ssd just for gaming

you have to consider space for in your PC as well, not just cost. even if you get one for free, if you have no free slots or space for the card, it's worthless.
