Hard drive help! **URGENT!**

I got a new computer but i NEed help!

I bought it without an OPerating System and loaded a WINDOWS ME disc i had.

Its all fine but the 40 gig hard drive reads as a 2 gig HD when i look at it in "my computer"

anyone know the problem?

you should run fdisk and partition your drive and make sure your bios can see 40gig drives

more specifically in fdisk make sure you have large disk support enabled, and yes make sure your bios supports drives this large. (most do, some older ones do not)

boot from your ME boot disk... at a: prompt, type "fdisk" to run fdisk. when it asks you whether you want to enable large disk support, say YES. then go to select disk drive to make sure you have the right drive selected. then go to delete partition and delete the one that is there. then go to create primary/dos partition and say yes when it asks if you want to make the partition the maximum allowable size. after this, it should be partitioned so you need to restart and boot with the floppy again. at a: prompt, this time type "format c:". after this gets done, you should be able to install ME as usual

these directions arent great, but they should do. oh, and you will lose any data on that drive, so back up anything thats important

Was the fat16 limit 2 or 4 gigs?
