I've tried many things but my computer will still not boot. I just built my new computer with a Gigabyte DS4 Motherboard, Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Processor, 2GB RAM, 8800GTS, and a 320GB Seagate drive. When I first booted my computer I had my old 80GB IDE drive in it so I could transfer the files I needed onto my new hard drive. My problem is that once I removed the old drive, my computer now says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." It POSTs fine but will not boot to Windows.

The drive was already formatted and Windows was installed (with the IDE drive in there).

::edit::
it just does "Verifying DMI Pool" and then the error "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

Does BIOS recognize the disk as the primary boot disk?

You may need to use your Windows Disk repair function to restore the boot sector.

there is no primary or secondary master/slave unless the IDE drive is in, in which case it's primary master. I have the SATA drive set to boot first (even before floppy/cd-rom) and it still doesn't work. How would i go about repairing the boot sector

::edit::
are you talking about booting from xp, entering the repair, and using the command "fixboot"?

Old drive was ide and new drive sata, right? This is an old problem and you must install windows onto the new drive without any ide drive hooked up to the system or it will place system files onto the ide drive whether or not you are placing the os on it.

I have a very similar problem. Except for me the Sata Drive (with Vista installed) was used when I built the computer and now the added IDE drive (with XP pre-installed) gets BSOD's on boot.

I guess I'll be watching this thread.

OK, well the problem was solved. I just reinstalled windows WITHOUT the IDE drive hooked up. My mistake for taking a shortcut and not putting the drive in later Thanks for all the help.
