hard drive issues

i have a 120gb WD 2mb cache drive, it has recently started to make a noise so i know i need to call WD about this but waiting until i have the money for the advanced RMA. Tonight i ran the datalifeguard on the drive and it said everything was running fine. Is it normal for that to report fine even if its clicking. The other thing is i went to work and came back and the drive was missing from windows so i rebooted and bios hung on ide scan, rebooted a few more times before power down then back up. After power cycle is worked. Can anybody give me an idea as to why windows "lost" the drive for a bit, im just lost myself as to why this happened

Datalifeguard will not be 100% accurate when testing. I think that HD is failing, and you need to find a back up ASAP. Go to the FS/FT forums and finds a cheapy if you have to, just get it backed up and wait for the RMA.

yeah only problem is its a 120 that is full oh well i get paid tomorrow night the data is replaceable

I thought that with an advanced RMA they just took a CC # to charge you just in case you didn't return the defective drive within ~30 days. I don't think you get charged.

oh i dont know, and now im not sure which drive is clicking, ive got the extended test running on the 120 and its almost done and i heard no clicks but i hear one just before i started it, would royally suck if its the 80 since its outta warrenty
