Hard drive noise reduction

I have a WD 120 SE and it's had a high pitched sound coming from it for a couple months now. I've read that RMAing the drive is basically hopeless in fixing this as it seems common. So I either buy a new HD (at least I got a nice deal on this one) and put this in my server, or use some kind of internal HD enclosure.

So are there any kind of enclosures I should look at? Or I think I'd just get a seagate drive as they are supposedly known for being of nice build quality (no whinning motors/bearing).

Get a Seagate Barracuda V and problem solved.

I agree. When you get a Barracuda V, you will definately sh*t your pants.
They are AMAZING.

I have 2 wd 120gb se drives too and while they are nice, I really want to get rid of the sound. hopefully I'll be able to get a couple barracuda V drives soon.

I'm going to try making an enclosure out of some foam with an 80mm 18db fan first, just because it sounds like fun But I'm also going to look around for deals on a barracuda V. Thanks

Get the Seagate Barracuda. I've got the 60gb Barracuda IV, my case is on top of my desk less than a foot away, the HD just below ear level, very quiet all but completely silent. I have a small apartment studio suite, my bed about 10-12 ft away from the PC. I had it on all last night downloading some softwar, could not hear the HD at all, only very small fan sound. I would get the Seagate again, my MB supports SATA, but I'm gonna wait till it's not such new technology. Anyway, regardless of how well other drives perform, I will get another Seagate Barracuda next time.
