Hard drive problem???

I have just finished building my first computer and everything works great except I can't get it to recognize the hard drive as the primary master. Any suggestions??
My specs are below.

Asus A7V
AMD Duron 700
128Mb 133 SDRam
Maxtor 20.4Gb 7200rpm
Asus V7100 Geforce2 MX
Sound Blaster Live!

Make sure that it is jumpered correctly and have you partitioned & formatted the drive?

1) Check the jumpers.
2) Check the IDE channel (use IDE1).
3) Check the IDE cable (the red stripe goes to pin 1).
4) Double check the power connection.
5) Can you see it in the BIOS IDE selection screen?
6) Is it partitioned? (fdisk)
7) Is it formatted?

Make sure that the blue connector on the ATA66 cable goes to the mobo and the HDD is connected to the Black (not grey) connector.

Yes it has been formatted and partitioned. The system recognizes that it is there but as a secondary master. I think it might be the connection to the mobo. Which one should it be for the Asus A7V??

Should be the connection to the mobo...

The Primary IDE channels are the connectors closest to the PCI slots, for both normal IDE and ATA100.

It doesn't matter which one it should be, you obviously have the wrong one, so switch em around.
