Hard drive problem

I had a new hard drive installed in my system, and it isnt showing the full capacity. I bought a 160gb seagate barracuda SATA to replace my other seagate. My older drive which is almost identical only it is 3 years old detected 149 gb of 160, and this new one only show 127gb of 160. What is causing this, and is it normal? Could it be cause I have an older motherboard? The jumper is even set where it should be, but we cant figure this out. Here are my specs:

Asus K8V Deluxe
AMD 64 3400+
Ge force 6800gt
Corsair value ram 1gb

Yeah it is a bit strange. I guess that would have me curious as well.
I wouldn't think it has anything to do with your motherboard.

Thats where PATA and SATA differ in regards to BIOS limitations, the only way the SATA drive would be limited on size would be because of the operating system your using.

If your using WinXP with SP1, you should be good to go.
If your using Win98, then you may have an issue.
Not sure on Win2K. You'd have to look up that info @ MS

You say you had it installed; I'm wondering if it wasn't a brand new drive and there may be a hidden or non-NTFS partition that's taking up the missing space.

Other than that or possibly the way it was low-level formatted at the factory, I can't think of a reason.

Sorry for the late replys. It is windows xp sp2 thats installed. The Hard drive I bought new from Comp USA, and a friend of mine installed it for me. Well at least it works, just wish i had at least 149gb like the old one had. I wont use that much space anyways, but kind of perplexed why this happend.
