Hard Drive Problems Plz Help!

I have 2 WD 80 gig hard drives in a Raid0 config. They are only bout 8 months old and been having problems with one of them I think. I have them connected to a Abit NF7-s M/B thru sata-ide adapters. I have been noticing in the last week one of my hard drives has been erratically. I can hear it spinning then making a clicking noise then shutting down. It then freezes my computer for about 20 secs or so then I'm good until this happens again, which is usually every 10-20 minutes. If I reboot my computer it stops for awhile. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you have S.M.A.R.T. enabled in the BIOS is it making any error reports? It sounds to me like your drive might be going bad, either that or it may be on a bad power connector.

Clicking noises from your hard disk is NOT A GOOD THING. Back up your data if you can.
Run WD's diagnostic stuff. RMA the drive.

you can use speedfans SMART display for your hard drive as well to show the healthyness of the drive

oh, and clicking noises is a very very bad sign...

omg, I just had the clicking thing happening to my external WD 80gig hd... i was downloading a huge file and then i heard the click, then the hd access light was constantly on, so i had to manually restart the computer to make it stop. when i relogged onto winxp, it said it failed to save the file. later, i tried dling the same file and then the clicking thing happened again. another restart, and im defragging the drive right now... im scared :frown: What should I do???

Think I figured it out. I have an Abit NF7-s m/b and the only way to run raid0 is thru it's sata connection. I have 2 of Abits sata to ide adaptors on my wd hdds' that I have always hated cuz they fit very loosely. I noticed the hdd that I was having trouble with, the sata adaptor was loose, got it in there a lil tighter and so far so good. If you barely wiggle this adaptor you can hear the hdd shut down then back on. Anyone know of anything new that I can get sata-ide adaptor wise so I get get rid of these Abit adaptors? You could always get a PCI IDE raid card instead. They're probably comparable to a pair of SATA converters, if not cheaper.
