Hard Drive question

I have a hard drive that refuses to show up on any bios. But it powers up and sounds perfectly fine. Would changing the circuit board fix this? And if so, can I use any circuit board made by the same company or does it need to be the exact drive?

How are the jumpers set on the drive?

Is it a different cable for each installation?

Is it an IDE Drive?

yeah, name and type would help, if it's a SATA drive it's a little more complicated than plug n' pray

Its a quantum fireball plus as 60GB IDE drive. I have tried all different jumper settings with 1 drive attached as master, slave, cs, and without any drives attached either. I'm not sure what happened to it, but the person who sold it to me said that it detects in windows or the bios only sometimes...

have you checked the cable if its damaged? also there are such things as faulty cables, even if they're not damaged, so maybe just swapping it with a cable that works could do the trick. Does the BIOS detect your CD-/DVD-ROM drives?

Yeah the bios detects all other drives, hdd and optical. Its just this one drive that doesn't work. The person who sold it to me also told me it is not functional. Just trying to figure a way to get it to work. My thinking is that if the cylinders spin and do not make any noise, it should be something with the circuit board...but then I dun know jack

You mean platters, not cylinders. Have you downloaded the diagnostic utility from the manufacture's web site and tried that yet?
