I have 3 hard drives in my computer currently, a 20gb maxtor IDE(used for booting and applications), a 200gb maxtor IDE(was used for everything else), and the newest addition is a 320gb WD SATAII. The sata2 drive replaced the 200gb maxtor. I also have 2 windows XP installations, one is located on the 20gb maxtor and contains the boot.ini, however it isn't used at all. The new one is located on the sata2 drive as well. Both installs were made before the sata2 drive was put in. When the sata2 drive was added, all partitions from the 200gb drive were copied over and resized. Currently all 3 drives are plugged in, however, the 200gb is disabled in windows.
The problem I'm having is that I cannot remove the 200gb drive. When it is unplugged, the new installation of windows will not boot and gives a disk configuration error. I don't know what to do to resolve this. Any and all help is appreciated.
The exact error message reads...
"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information."
