I bought a new hard drive a couple of days ago, and reinstalled Windows (2000) and upgraded the BIOS to get a fresh start. But after upgrading, the read/write speeds on all drives seem to be limited to approx. 7MB/s.
It's a KT7-RAID mobo, with the 3C BIOS. The HDDs a connected like this:
IBM 18GB master on IDE1
2*IBM 30GB in RAID-0 masters on IDE3 and 4
WD 80GB slave on IDE3 (this is the new drive)
CD-R/CD-ROM are SCSI, on an Adaptec AHA2940AU
I use Via 4in1 4.31 and HPT drivers 1.11.don't-remember-the-rest (but it's the one on HighPoint's website that's supposed to be used with the 1.11.0402 HPT BIOS), and all drives are set to UDMA5 on the HPT controller, and the 18GB runs on UDMA4.
Before reinstalling, I backed up everyting to the new drive, and got speeds between 15 and 20MB/s. After deleting everyting on the RAID array and the 18GB drive, I flashed the BIOS to 3C (from UL), and reinstalled. And that's when the trouble started. I'm not sure if the new BIOS is the actual problem. All I can say is that everything suddenly has become painfully slow.
I hate flashing the BIOS, so I want to check if anyone has got any other suggestions before doing so...
