Hard Drive Swap

This question probably extremely trivial for most of you, but if I am running Win2k, and I want to exchange my current drive for a new one, can I just mirror copy my existing drive to my new drive, and then make the new drive the primary disk and have everything function the way it was under the old drive? I tried just copying the entire drive, but i get user sharing error messages. If it is possible, could you briefly explain how to? Thanks in advance.

you'd need to use software like Norton's Ghost that can be bought seperate or in a utlity package like Norton's Systemworks Pro, or another like Drive Copy by PowerQuest...if by chance you have a Maxtor hard drive, there is a utility called MaxBlast Plus that you can download for free off of Maxtor's website...I believe those are your only options to copy drive to drive.

Seems like youre right about that. The maxtor software can obviously be used for other drives as well I am assuming.

Not sure about the MaxBlaster software working with other drives, it may, then again it may not....it says it doesn't support other drives...

Well, Ill try it out. my old drive is a maxtor, and the new an IBM. Ill let you know if it works.
